This was the worst class I have ever taken! He tells us that we have a group project and paper for our final but didn't gave us clear expectations on what the project is. The whole class was focused on politics not leadership. The worst part is he says he respects opinions but if he doesn't like it he will let you know and judge you for it.

By far one of the worst experiences I have had with a wcu professor. Not only does he talk aimlessly of the three hours (full three hours) he gets off topic, talks incredibly slow and nothing is clear. He gives you a syllabus at the beginning and that is the only way you know what is due. What he says, goes. Would NEVER recommend

I had to take this class as an Honors College required course, and I wish I didn't have to. I enjoy public speaking, but Professor Hickman made me hate it. He obviously favors his Forensics team more than his class, as he often told us he had other business to do so he couldn't give us feedback. Overall a very bad teacher.

He seems nice at first and like it'll be a fun class, but don't be mistaken. He is extremely sassy and is not polite to say the least when it comes to questions or feedback. He doesn't give much clarity at all when it comes to the class procedures, due dates, or grades for that matter. He waited till the week of finals to post any grades to D2L.

Professor Hickman is THE BEST.. He's tough but his class really helps. If you have trouble with public speaking, he is the professor to take. He is respectful and engaging during lectures. He appreciates open conversation which is nice as well. Take him if you can, you won't regret it. Wish more professors were like him!

Not the best but not bad as a public speaking professor. He definitely helps you get over your fears and is willing to help you in any way he can. The midterm and final are easy.

Liked the class, didn't like the professor. He is arrogant and tries hard to make students like him. Gave out review sheets for the midterm and final and they were a piece of cake. I pretty much had to teach myself about public speaking. He rants about "mittens and pairs", which the extent of tips he gives on speaking. Avoid him if you can.

He taught public speaking like it was physics. He wasnt easy at all, he grades really hard. The tests were not that bad, but you HAVE to read the book or else you will be screwed. Also he knows a lot but it gets annoying cause you can tell he thinks very very highly of himself.

Ever notice how most of the negative comments have spelling errors that a third grader wouldn't make? Hickman isn't easy. Deal with it. And the crying from people who claim they aren't the best speakers? The purpose of the class is to make you better! Sheesh.

Please save yourself from all the stress and stay away. I don't think he realizes that public speaking is not for everyone. He grades extremely hard and favors certain students. The tests aren't too hard. Every time he offers extra credit, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.

Instructor Hickman receives the title of "Worst Professor I Have Ever Taken". He's bitter about not having his Ph.D., and it's obvious, for he always talks down to his students. As a humanities major, I write constantly and am used to constructive criticism. He criticizes writing as though he's the connoisseur of all things grammatical. Dreadful.

I excelled in his class . . .but this man gets very political in lectures, and is a total dream-squasher. He actually told me that people can't make a difference in public policy in any way. Way to inspire your students to dream big . . . NOT!

take good notes in class! Do the reading because the information is in the tests even though he never talks about it in class. He is a tough grader. Follow his speech outlines exactly as he gives them in class.

I would think that someone at this age and stage of his carreer should know that positive or negative favoritism of any kind has an adverse effect on whom that is being favored. Anyone who spends a week in his class will witness the epitome of subjectivity and disfavoritism enforced by the sheer abuse of one's authority as a teacher.

this course killed my self-esteem and I ended up getting worse speaker because it killed my confidence and made me self-conscious! he would pick on things like my tie, skin rather than the content and the deliverance like he has nothing better to say. so much for "critique"! once he asked what kind of neighborhood i am from and parents occupation!
