Comment:
He may not give the flashiest lectures but Dr. Peyrot offers a very unique perspective that captivated my attention daily. I do not think he is a tough grader if you know how to write a good paper and follow his concise guidelines, I never got below a 90 on a paper and typically did them the night before. There is very little work involved.

Comment:
Dr. Peyrot is a respectable professor and really knows his field of study. However, the material covered in class can become confusing because your "notes" are taken from him literally just talking at you. There are 4 papers that you write all semester with no tests/quizzes. He is a very critical grader.

He is really unhelpful and there are five five-paged papers. He gives bad feedback and is not descriptive in class or in office hours.

He lectures every class, which provides you with the information that you need, but he is set in his ways. He relies on student's to provide examples but is critical of their responses. Respects students is not friendly.

Class can be boring at times, attendance is not mandatory. Always willing to help so go to office hours. 4 papers total and no other assignments, lowest paper grade is dropped. Extra credit is easy by talking in class.

I was scared going into this class after reading all the poor reviews, but Dr. Peyrot isn't a bad professor at all. I don't think all the reviews on here are accurate. The class is slightly hard because it's lecture heavy. Attendance wasn't mandatory. He's available in his office for any clarification and makes sure you understand before leaving

He's gotten a lot of negative reviews but, overall, he isn't a bad professor. You do have to be ready to put significant effort into the papers (4). He does drop the lowest paper grade of the first 3 which will boost your grade. Just go to every class, pay attention/take notes, use as many key terms as you can, and use quotes from ALL readings.

Four papers (MAKE SURE THEY'RE 5 PAGES OR MORE!!) If you want an easy class, find someone else. The material is interesting but he makes the class unnecessarily complicated. I kind of sensed a smugness to him, considering he always finds some way to slide in all his achievements. Not a terrible class, but you have to work for it (and talk!).

Took this class to fulfill my core. For my class we had 3 take home exams. These tests were open book/open note (no internet). While this seems amazing, these tests were ridiculously hard. I did well, but a lot of people in my class struggled because it was hard to find the answers in the book. Recommend if you want a challenge.

There are 3 grades in the class which are take home essays. He is a very tough grader on the essays and provides limited feedback on what you did wrong. The questions asked for the essays cover material that is more in depth than the class discussions. He will not help you if you have a question on the essay and his teaching and notes aren't clear

Assigns three papers for the whole semester the average is your grade. Class is not bad at all. There are never homework or quizzes and he's a pretty easy grader on the papers, just take good notes and you'll be fine. Final paper is pretty difficult and time-consuming though so be prepared for that around finals time. All in all its an OK class.

You only have 4 papers 2 minute presentations along with each one. Syllabus says papers should be up to 5 pages but if it is not a complete 5 pages you get a lower grade. Drops lowest paper grade. Lectures are extremely boring. Not a very interesting class but you can definitely get an A if papers are 5 pages. I got an A.

Very confusing professor. If you have a question he does not answer them well, he is extremely unclear. Only 4 papers for the whole semester and no tests which is nice. Not a fan of the professor overall.

Prof Peyrot makes this class far too complicated considering its intro level and most people are only taking it to complete a requirement. He doesn't use powerpoints or handouts, literally just stands there and talks at you. He grades the papers extremely hard which makes it impossible to get an A.

Very interesting professor. Usually laid back, but you need to pay attention. He assigns thought-provoking work, so if you don't like to think, then don't take his class. Good professor overall. One of my favorites.

I thought he was very helpful. He doesn't give tests and you only have 4 papers a semester in his intro class. When you ask a question he helps lead you to your answer by pushing you to think harder, I think it helps you learn more. He always gives extra credit for participating, and is totally an older hippie. I learned a lot in his class.
