He's gone to Georgie Southern University, and our great loss is their significant gain. UTSA was too narrow-minded to offer the man tenure, although 99% of students loved and respected him as a teacher. The students would have gladly swapped a dozen of UTSA's less revered professors for one Womack.

Comment:
As a scholar, he is brilliant and witty; as a person, he is supercilious and condescending. Likeable, yet makes remarks in class that are innapropriate or belittling. Lecture is fantastic, but assessment of papers is dubious. Altered the syllabus relative to weighting the last week of class by discarding the pop quizzes. You go figure!

I loved this class! I was dreading Shakespeare, thinking I would have a hard time understanding, but Womack really gets you into it. Such a shame he's leaving UTSA. That's a big loss. His class is set up where you could easily skip alot of days, but he makes you want to show up. Wonderful prof.

I wanted to take this course regardless who taught it. But this professor showed me why I wanted to take this class. He is a brillant professor that made Shakespeare even more exciting than I had already found him. Pay attention to his every instructions for papers. Only two papers, so do them well.

A bit condescending, but not overly. Can be too emotional at times. Also, he seems more interested in getting published than with actually teaching students.

Lots of quizes, but easy if you read. He grades hard but fair. You may want to take Lit Crit before Shakespeare, it will help with your writing. Enjoyable class even at an early hour. Think before you speak or you may get shot down.

Superb professor with a great deal of insight to Shakespeare and Tolkien. He taught me things about Hamlet I'd never even noticed (and I'm obsessed with Hamlet). Does, however, seem intimidating and unapproachable. Wonderful prof nonetheless.

For those who believe he did not deserve tenure, I assure you he did. He is a brilliant man with a passion for english and passing that passion on. As an anthro major in a sea of english majors he made it a joy to come to class at 8 every day!

I didn't see any favortism from Dr. Womack. I was scared the first week or so that I was doomed. I stuck it out and my grades got better. I felt I really learned a lot and my writing improved.

I'm shocked he didn't get tenure; he is so intelligent, and though people sometimes think he's a jerk, it's just because he has no tolerance for people who do not listen or do not think before they speak. Dr. Womack is wonderful, though difficult.

Dr. W is a fantastic professor. I'm not sure what's meant by "unclear grading" bc in his syllabus he's VERY clear about how he grades. I've taken 4 classes with him and I've never seen him play favorites or act like a jerk to any student.

It's a shame that he was denied tenure. He's a great teacher. He knows his stuff, is very enthusiastic, and has an excellent sense of humor. He makes English fun again. Evidently, that's not enough for UTSA, a wannabe university. Publish or perish.
