great professor. passionate about what she is teaching. most of the class consists of watching documentaries (good ones) and discussing them after in class and online. gives clear guidelines if you ask, great feedback on papers (2 a semester) and group presentations (2 a semester).

Horrible teacher. If you plan on sharing your ideas with the professor, do not take her class because she will tell you that you are wrong before you can even say 3 words. She fails to understand any of the ideas i've attempted to share with her. I don't know if that is a language barrier or if she just doesn't listen/care

There are assignments online, just say you're there and participate a bit- you'll get credit. There are group presentations, which are easy. Midterm and finals are take home. She assigns chapters to read, however, she reiterated the chapter in lecture. The only reason I read was because her lectures weren't clear, just read to understand her better

Easy class, barely any work besides the final project (which I finished editing in five hours the day before it was due). Very helpful as well. Sweet lady. Didn't learn much, and I didn't open the textbook once.

I was worried about this class because I didn't hear the best things, but she gives almost no work at all. Take home midterm. No final. Group projects. Screenings every day. Discussions. In the first month we basically only had to learn 3 definitions. Ridiculously easy. love it

I feel bad because she is a nice lady and I imagine it would be fun to have her over as a dinner guest but she really shouldn't be teaching. She has a passion for Ramapo so perhaps they can use her else ware on campus but she really does a poor job at running her class and getting her point across. It doesn't help that she speaks broken English :/

Gender in Film: She is not as bad as people make her out to be. She does repeat a lot of information but thats how you remember it. Because of her repeating things so much, i didn't have to do much reading for our take home midterm because i had remembered everything she talked about. She also is a little humorous :)so dont be so quick to judge.

i took marta my jr year for latin american cinema studies..she is biased, completely out there- both in regards to the material and general class conversation. plays favorites to students with the correct "ethnic" background. the book is 20 years old so the material is out dated as is her "information" which is more opinion than fact. DO NOT TAKE

I had Marta for First Year Seminar, and I can safely say that she is the most useless teacher I don't want to believe can exist. She made no sense, her directions changed daily, and she had no clear grading system. But there was no work, so if you have a sense of humor and don't mind sucking up for an easy grade go ahead and take this class.

It is very important to Marta that you improve your abilities to recognize the important points made in the text and gone over in class. Do what she asks of you and you will get an A, simple. Took her for directing doc. She doesnt speak english well, she doesn't know much about film making and will repeat the same few points each week. She will interrupt your class time you use to work as much as possible. She arbitrarily assigns grades, loses work and doesn't offer to help much. If you speak spanish, though, automatic A.

I've had Marta twice. On both occasions she didn't keep track of grades and at the end of the semester asked us all "what we thought we should be earning". I said an A(which I rightfully earned)...and she said "I think you deserve a B". This woman has serious issues.

Possibly the worst professor at Ramapo College. I can honestly say I learned more from other people who were in the class than I did from her. She is a waste of time and tuition money. Avoid this woman at all costs. Like a previous poster mentioned, she is totally just coasting on tenure. It's the only reason she is still here.

Don't think people have a problem with her just because of her bizarre accent. Even if she spoke perfect English, she'd be a total embarassment to Ramapo College. She makes no effort to teach anything, insists on using 1980's technology, and dismisses students who have differing opinions. A prime example of a professor coasting on tenure!

WORST WORST WORST TEACHER EVER. This women is clearly not interested in doing ANY work, grades nothing, assigns useless project (film a door from close, med, far) takes attendences every day. Has NO talent is just there for her pay check. has has no clue whats going on, tries to reteach the same lesson as the week before almost every week. AWFUL!

She is a nice person but she tends to not understand people and their ideas. She asks broad questions even though she wants specific answers. She is pretty easy when it comes to writing work though. She doesn't make what she wants very clear though and she doesn't accept others ideas.
