I had her for Music and Society. First of all, its NOT about music and society. its about tons of operas and some history on jazz. Her tests are really hard.The class is so boring and she's not good with electronics which takes up a lot of class time. Really sweet woman though. But if you dont have prior music background it will be even harder.

I took her class for Music and Society. She's a very nice lady, but class is incredibly boring and she's often rather disorganized. When it comes to the tests, you basically have to know everything in the coursepack. If you take her class, read read read. And memorize. I wouldn't suggest it though.

Prob the worst professor I have had, high school and college combined. When asked what to focus on for exam, "Just know as much as you can about everything." Wrote on my first exam, "Is this paper a joke?" This woman's ego nearly got in the way of my graduation. I strongly urge anyone considering taking a class with her to find someone else.

I had her for music in society and it was an easy class to show up for, but once you get the test, its unnecessarily hard. it is all essay and if you want to do well at all you have to memorize everything in the book. dumb class, hard tests, and a waste of my time. nice lady though

I had her for the Mozart and Amadeus Freshman Seminar. My advice? TAKE HER if you want a seminar. She seems very flighty and disorganized but she's so smart and is a very easy grader. There were kids in my class that couldn't even pronounce Mozart's name correctly and most likely completed the course in the A or B range. Easy class, wonderful prof.

Fickett's class is easy. I just finished her gen ed Music and Society class. I agree that her class can be extremely boring at class. She reinforces what is already in her course pack. READ THE COURSE PACK!!!! Do the listening activities!It won't kill you. I personally enjoyed written test since literally all info is in the course pack Sweet lady.

She is a horrible teacher. Her tests are all essay's and listening to random pieces of music and having to ID them. I'm taking this class as a GenEd requirement. And I have a C. She is so boring. She knows the material well, but no one really cares about what she talks about. STAY AWAY FROM HER!!

This class is easy enough if you can write/BS well. There is a lot of written work and only a few tests. Other than that, Dr. Fickett grades class participation and really hates when you miss class. But she is a very kind woman and cares about her students. However the seminar was painfully boring... if you have the option, pick a different topic!

Dr. Fickett was one of my most caring, helpful professors at MW. She expected a lot out of me; I worked hard writing papers for her. She wrote me a recommendation letter for a graduate school and I got accepted. She cares about her work and her students deeply and I recommend taking a class with her for a good experience.

Do not even bother buying the textbook--you won't need it. Go to class and take notes, you will be absolutely fine. She can be pretty disorganized. Her lectures go all over the place, and yet somehow manage to be boring. However, it IS an easy Gen. Ed. Just make sure you have a cup of coffee before you go.

She is really annoying. She thinks that everyone should be SO INTERESTED in operas and classical music, and she takes offense that we're not. She expects everyone to always get what she's talking about, too, and calls on people all the time. Her tests aren't hard as long as you read everything in the coursepack. Class is useless.

the WORST class i have ever taken. we talked about absolutely nothing and the title "music and society" is completely misleading. all you do is watch operas in other languages and it is almost unbearable. i could hardly stay awake and when tests roll around you have NO idea what to study. STAY AWAY!

Nice Lady! She really loves her students and the work. She is very passionate. The music is easy to listen to, but she is unclear on grading. There were only 3 grades the ENTIRE semester and you don't even have to go to class. Read the coursepack, but no matter how hard you work, she still grades difficult.

Definitely take Fickett for private lessons. She's a great professor & musician - she really helped me learn a lot & improve my playing. I was worried lessons would take the fun out of piano but she didn't at all. I'm definitely continuing with her for lessons & other classes.

Dr. Fickett is one of the nicest people but she's not very demanding as a piano professor. I'm not a piano major so it's great for me because I can get some practice, improve a bit, and there's no pressure to become a virtuoso.

may come across as old fashioned and a bit out dated with her teaching methods but she makes an effort to help students and usually succeeds to do so. is an all out nice prof. and her class not too difficult so if you have a gen ed to complete i would encourage to get her. she has a strong emphasis on participation and the music lab.

Take Great Masterworks with her if you have a good music background (ie can read music, know the basics, know some terms...) Take lengthy notes and then just gurgle them back up on the test. Participation makes her happy. a good GPA booster if you want it to be.
