Father Chase's class was super interesting, and it's possible to get a good grade if you're willing to put in the work. Participation in class also helps, and he will call on you if he sees that you're not grasping a concept, so he can teach you how to do it right. Overall, if you're looking for a class for a requirement, I'd recommend this one!

I took Fr. Chase for two classes and plan on taking him again next semester. The two courses I took him for were old english and beowulf and consisted of very hard material. However, he was very helpful and extremely enthused when you participated in class. A very fair teacher if people come (or pretend to come) prepared. Easy paper grader.

Father Chase is the man. One of my regrets at Fordham is that I was only able to take him for one class. He's the type of teacher where you will check to see what other courses he's offering whenever you register. It helps if you speak in class and if you talk to him during office hours or in e-mails. Do not be intimidated by Father Chase. He is actually really caring and open to what you have to say. Speaking up in class really goes a long way with him. Even though some of the readings assigned were laborious, he was understanding when some people said they didn't do them all. Not a bad grader, either. In the end, I'd say take him.

The class was very unique. He always dedicated a portion of class to an art history lecture. The papers tended to relate more to secondary sources. He can be very funny and awkward and he says some words that I've never heard any teacher say in class, let alone a priest. The assigned readings are interesting and make for good discussion.

Eh...he's okay. Nothing terribly special about him. He is a relatively easy grader, likes Bs. He was also my manresa professor(tierney hall program) so all of the texts were religion based, which sucked because it was my english class, not a theology. He knows what he is talking about, but I did fall asleep occasionally. Overall pretty good.

Probably the worst english teacher ive ever had. He is a father, so at first he comes off as very nice, but dont be fooled. He is rude, **** and makes the most disgusting comments. readings are boring, grades sorta easy but all and all a horrible experience... i and the entire class dreading that hour and a half

What a waste of tuition... the readings are boring and in a FOREIGN LANGUAGE (!!!), the class itself is incredibly boring and unhelpful. He never seems to go over anything terribly relevant in class, which leads to confusion on the midterm and final. Papers, however, are pretty easy, although I would say hes kinda a harsh grader.
