I studied Modern Jewish Culture with Dr. Wilson in 1973/74. Though I was a British Lit. major with a minor in Education, Marv's course was the best of the bunch, and he was the best teacher. I have been teaching for 30+ years, and Marv and his teaching remains the model of excellence for me.

Dr. Wilson is an amazing lecturer. He has a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that comes out in every class. His years in study has paid off for anyone who comes to him looking for answers. He expects you to know everything he has taught and read for his classes and your grades are determined by a few exams. Most respected Professor on campus.

If you have no prior experience with biblical studies, Marv Wilson's class may not be the best choice. He is an amazing teacher, and is very clear that EVERYTHING you read and hear will be on the test. At the end of the day we love the experience of learning under him, but it lived up to the level of difficulty it is described with.

i've been getting B's in all the tests and found out I got an A overall so it's true he does boost them up as much as necessary for most of the class not to fail. the majority of his large core class gets below a B and failing on all his tests, from what it looks like on the scoreboard

just finished old testament my first semester and I don't think any other teacher will compare. he set's the bar high and pushes us as far as we can learn and still get good grades since i heard he boosts them up a letter grade. very holistic and spiritual class, he is passionate and acknowledges the realness of God and purpose in our learning.

I took Old Testament Theology and Modern Jewish Culture. I really learned a lot about Judaism and how it applies to our Christian faith. He is so knowledgeable and amazing! I was having a hard time my senior year, and I spoke to him, and he worked with me. He's fair and compassionate. I wish everyone could take a class of his. He's that great!

Comment:

One of the most accomplished people on the face of the earth. Translated two books of the NIV Bible. Extremely, extremely difficult. I got an A, but I consider myself know the OT better than 99% of people who actually read Bible, and I studied 24/7. Rounds up your grade, but the workload will be more than all your other classes combined.
