I have known Dr. Breden since 1992, when I was a student in Loyola Marymount University. I took a 14 years absence from this group between 2000 - 2014. In 2014, I made the decision to return. This turns out to be the best decision I have made. Dr. Breden and her expertise have continued to blessed my life through music.

Comment:

Dr. Breden can be intimidating, but really is an amazing teacher. As harsh and critical as she can be, I've grown to really respect her. I've taken her for 4 years, and every year she gets better - both in teaching, and with her patience. She has a certain vision for how she wants her choir to sound, and she never rests until she achieves it.

Breden gets great results but at a high price. She believes that choir should be at the center of your universe. The songs she picks are depressing about Jesus' crucifixions. She doesn't take anyone or anything into consideration.

Dr. Breden knows what the choir is capable of, and she won't let you get away with less than your best. She will make you a much better singer, but it will take hard work on your part. If you work hard, you'll get along great with her and will appreciate what she does for you. If you're afraid of hard work, don't bother taking choir.

Critical, rude....thinks choir is the center of all college students life. it requires outside of class practice and lots of weekend competitions...unless you love choir and dont want to be an individual and want your life to consist of choir...run from this class

She is incredibly demanding and rude. Shes critical and is only concerned with choir. If you are a vocal major she will use every way, not of persuasion but of force and putting you on the spot to get you to be in every choir. I am a vocal major and she is incredibly unfriendly and does not consider that students have other obligations

I looovee bre bre! she is a fantastic conductor! she knows exactly what sound she wants and will get it out of you if its the last thing she does. shes not mean, she expects perfection and gets it. if she does single you out, its not personal, she just wants you to do better, cuz if you made the choir she knows you can do better. take choir!!

She demands perfection and hard work, but it's so worth it, and you will learn a lot. My singing got a hundred times better in the three years I sang in Concert Choir and the one year I was in Consorts. You will work your butt off, but what you get back is priceless.

Singing in Dr. Breden's Concert Choir this year has completely changed how I think about singing and music. She's tough and that's great, because she gets the quality she wants. I highly recommend taking choir if you're interested at all. She is so passionate about her work and it shows every rehearsal!

Dr. Breden gets alot of crap from people for being mean. I've been singing with professional and school choirs for years and I can tell you that the coddling method doesn't work very often. She demands the absolute best and she gets it. If you can't love the music enough to let go of your personal feelings, then you shouldn't be in this class. Don't take it personally, and you will have an amazing experience in either of these choirs.

She demands the best, and if you can't hang in with her, you'll never make it as a singer. People complain that she's mean, but these are the people who can't deliver when it's crunch time. She's not mean, she demands perfection... which is why the LMU Choirs are some ofthe best in the US.

A word to all LMU choir rookies: Dr. Breden will push you to see if you crack, and if you don't then she'll respect you. Nobody loves choir more than she does. Hotshot singers could learn a lot from her if they'd just listen.
