I was sooo glad to hear that she was retired. I learned NOTHING from COMS 449 when Mary Larson was teaching it. She grades very hard and gave back nothing positive in her critiques about your work. Her style is very old school and I will NEVER select her as a teacher again. If she is teaching one of your classes GET OUT QUICK. The class was not har

This class was a little overboard at first but then slows down a lot. Protools projects sucked but you can get through them. The TA's and lab time were one of my best class expierences i have had at NIU(expecially Matt). Take this if you can handle some boaring lectures but an extremely fun lab. Larson should be teaching 5 graders.

worst teacher I ever had at NIU, her textbook, which she put together, is ridden with typos, and then all she does is read it out loud in class. Very uninspiring, you can imagine, on a Monday morning. Def. steer clear.

Larson is too strict with absences. Tests are pretty difficult and out of class work is a little excessive. She's generally a nice teacher, but strict. It's a fun class, but its very time consuming.

This class is definitely challenging, but fun because of the hands-on projects. But only take if you're a COMS major because you have to dedicate a lot of time to it. The tests are hard and you have to come to every lab or you lose 20 points for each one. Larson is pretty strict, but a generally nice person.

Nothing against the credentials of Mary Larson or Laura Vasquez, but I think many would agree with me when I say the COMS departement (and your requirements) as a whole would benefit GREATLY from some different instructors teaching 357 and 358...per say Matt Swan.

She is clear on what she wants, but this class is not to be taken as a joke. It takes time and you will live in the pro tools lab so get ready. The end is nice though, if you survive the class.

Double whammy of a class for commuters who are Media majors, since class is only one of two options that are required. Class is WAY much too overboard with the labs and then the projects that are 'outside of labtime' that take additional time -- again, can easilly hurt the "commuter." D+

Good teacher, but the class should be more than three credits. Drawn out and has side projects (labs) that cut into your other time or classes, which may hurt. Very strict attendance policy, even stating family deaths are "inexcusable". Kinda preposterous. She is the only teacher for 357 too. C-

I feel this teacher is about power trips. If we have a complaint she cries that she'll complain to the Judicial office, and doesn't consider that our complaint has a grain of truth. She should teach Dictator 357.

one of the coolest classes ive ever taken. the lecture has to have a different format. not so much the attendance, but what is taught during lecture, at least fill that time with more intresting material.

the course is very informative and the projects allow you to learn alot. However the instruction is often different from what you should actually know in the production world.

Class is a lot of work, should be a 6 credit hour class, 1 hour lecture/1 hour lab, 3 days a week. Plus you have numorus outside projects...only take this class if you are a coms major/minor, or have a real interest in production, and are patient...
