Dr. Valante is a good teacher, hard to stay awake during her lectures. The topic of this writing class was medieval food. She makes you work on your final 8-10 pg paper throughout the year. So it makes it easier when it needs to be written in full. Grades mostly by letter grades and not numbers

I don't think she realizes this is a gen ed class. She lectures like crazy. Her powerpoints are no help. She never answers your questions, just repeats them back to you. Thanks for nothing. Very knowledgeable, but cannot teach. If you are stuck with her GOOD LUCK.

Dr. Valante loves what she does and it is very evident. I don't recommend taking any course with her. I am a senior and this class has been the hardest class that I have taken. The study guides are near to useless, the course work load is outrageous, and there are very weird group projects. There is a paper for every exam and many others as well.

This was a pretty challenging class. The papers were easy (she offers rewrites on the first two) and the readings are not that bad. The tests are all very similar and focus on culture more than actual facts and places. She also lets you do take home essays for every test.

Mrs. Valante knows her history, but she is the hardest grader/ does not help you with anything whatsoever. The study guides do not include anything that will actually be on the tests! the tests are crazy hard, and almost impossible to pass. I would NEVER take this class ever again. I do not recommend her at all if you want a good grade.

Dr. Valante is extremely knowledgeble and absolutely knows her stuff in regards to world history, but her lectures are very long and often seem to get off topic. Her powerpoints are just pictures which she talks about, so if you miss anything you can't go back and look at the powerpoint. You're better off just reading the textbook in class.

She knows her subject, but she's not a very engaging lecturer and her tests require you to know the readings inside and out to get a good grade. The lectures were dull and all over the place, which made it hard to take good notes. I wouldn't take another class of hers again.

Hard tests. I had no idea what to study for. Study guides were not helpful. Half the people I talked to didn't know what she expected from us. Lots of novels to read but one-2 page papers for each. She allowed rewrites but for one, my grade went from a C- to a C.

Dr. Valante is one of my favourite professor's on the entire campus. She genuinely cares deeply for her students and will do everything she can to help you. Her classes are not easy - much reading and writing will be had - but they are engaging and will stay with you. Taken many classes with her.

Be warned - this class is HARD. There is tons of reading and she's a tough grader. But she's also a great teacher who really knows what she's talking about and you will learn a lot. I was intimidated at first, but if you go to her office and talk to her you'll find that she actually cares a lot about her students and is very willing to help.

Don't let anyone tell you this teacher is awful or self-centered : she isn't. She isn't an easy teacher by any stretch, and the paper that is required can be perilous, but it is all worth it in the end. Her knowledge in this subject is extensive and vast as well! She's well worth the take if you're interested in the subject.

The class was boring. It is the generic writing in history class, but her's focused on medieval women. Had several small writing assignments that then go to the final paper, which was only 8-10 pages. Had nightly readings and blogs, but her lectures off these were really bland. Did not find it very exciting.

Dr. Valante is an awesome professor. I have taken two classes with her. She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. She may come off tough at first, but she really is very nice. Stop by her office sometime and talk to her. She is interesting & can give you great advice! Her classes require you take notes and pay attention. Do that & you're fine!

Dr. Valante is not only a teacher but the head of the advising for History Secondary Education majors and is absolutely HORRIBLE at this job! She incapable of helping students be able to determine what courses they need to register for. If she is your advisor for this department SWITCH to someone else because you will regret it if you dont!!!

I never opened the text book once, got a B+ in the class and A's on all the papers. Not a very hard class as long as you listen in class and take notes. The exams are hard but as long as you study you should make a decent grade(C). If you have to take the class, just do it and get it done. Not a fun class- coming from a person who likes history.

This class was ridiculous. Freshman level history and the woman thinks your majoring in history- hard tests, lots of books you have to read and to top it off she made a lab for the class when history doesn't have one
