The best professor I ever had, not because his classes were easy but because they were hard. Any language is difficult but he made learning Japanese rewarding beyond the grades, from sushi parties at his home to his weekly conversational language exchanges with local Japanese students. His dedication to helping students will be remembered always.

He's a very nice man, very professional... but he has a tendency to expect more in return than what he gives. Very abstract questions, will put you on the spot then move on without clarification if you're stuck, mumbles a lot at times, and doesn't have a flexible teaching method... I love Japanese, but I needed to switch profs.. Dismissive

Nice guy in general but I would not recommend as a prof. He is unclear in what is expected, then piles on a lot of new information all at once. And yes, he mumbles. He was often dismissive when clarification was requested. I've taken Japanese before, and this was by far the most confusing way I've ever had it taught to me.

He is marvelous! One of the best instructor I've had! He takes late assignment&write down the hiragana&katagana on the board during the test! One time I sited outside of his office and tried to memorize the recitation, he waited me&partner for an extra half hour! On the sushi day of JCC, this nice man carried all the food, cleaned up everything!!

Difficult to hear what he is saying sometimes, and his examples are not always great. That said, Masayuki is extremely kind, polite, and understanding. He will go above and beyond what the vast majority of teachers would do to make sure you get the help you need. I want to rate him "6" on helpfulness; he is one of the best teachers I've ever had!

He is by far the most leniant instructor I have ever met. He is incredibly nice as well! I couldn't believe he allowed people to take a retest on a midterm. I think he focuses more on people wishing to speak japanese for interest rather than majoring in it. He is just great, and his sense of humour is awesome.

A great teacher, extremely helpful but you have to be careful because he will give you enough rope to hang yourself with. He will always take late assignments (usually for a slightly reduced mark) and help you out if you need it. If you're thinking of taking Japanese he's the guy to start with.

A ceaselessly understand prof, he will go out of his way to help you. Although he can seem a bit disorganized at times his lectures are still very helpful (and you MUST go to them). His assistant, Maki-sensei, is very sweet and also very helpful. Study often, stay on top of the workload, and go to class, and you should do well in this course.

Prof thinks his course is a joke but its actually a major challenge for us English speakers. You MUST keep up with the work in order to do well, otherwise you will crash and burn. This is a new language you are learning, it builds from itself, so you can't miss a thing. If you keep up then you can get an easy A.

very difficult course. if your looking to pass you'll probably be able to pull it off. if you're aiming high it can be tough. lectures aren't very easy to understand becaues they are taught in broken english. his examples are hard to follow. the new text is helpful though. consider chinese first?

The language is not easy at all. However, he's very kind and you'll pass the course easy. If you're not sure if the answer is correct on final, make sure you ask him! Sit at the front of the class since it's HARD to listen to him at the back.
