Very knowledgeable professor. If you're not an Earth Science major the field trips and the labs may become annoying but if you're an Earth science major take as many classes as you can with Gorring. Field Geology in Montana/Wyoming is definitely worth taking for the experience.

Took Physical Geology as gen ed over winter. First half is online, then the rest is in person. Professor Gorring is a pretty laid back chill dude, you can hand in assignments late as long as he has them before the end of the semester! You mostly do lab work each day like looking at rocks and maps. The exams are all online and answers are in slides!

He is the best professor I have ever had. Extremely caring and laid back. Never used the textbook, you don't have to do the hw readings to pass. Every exam and quiz has all the answers within his lecture slide shows. All quizzes/exams are online. You can hand in labs whenever you want as long as he has them before the end of the semester. THE BEST!

I had this class and absolutely loved it. I hate science, and I got a very good grade. Just show him that you're trying, do all the labs, and take every quiz. It will boost up your grade a lot. He's very nice

Excellent professor! He realizes there are non-science majors in the class and does not make the material difficult. Easy quizzes and gives study guides for exams. Lab is easy and Lab Assistants help make sure you get the right answers. DEFINITELY recommend.

He's casual, laidback, easy going and a very nice person. He is practical, and concerns his students only with what is absolutely necessary to learn. His approach to mineralogy is scientific (at the molecular level) and you use lab equipment during each class. His class isn't difficult, but at the same time you will learn a lot. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I really enjoyed his class. He explains everything so well and clear. He did online quizzes and tests which were nice. Field trips are required(which he rents a van for the students), and if you do an extra one, it's extra credit. Definitely the best professor I've had at Montclair-highly recommend taking him.

Expect to absolutely work your ass off and I MEAN WORK YOUR ASS OFF!! The class consists of in class labs, 3 day field trip assignments, 1 6 page group paper and presentation, and a midterm and final. I recommend him from a teaching standpoint, but not for a work slacker.

Good guy. Class was pretty interesting and i learned a lot. Just saw the guy on the history channel "How the Earth Was Made" "New York", which has gotta say something about his credibility. Plus it was a pretty easy class.

Best mineralogy teacher and I enjoyed the class very much. He gives four mini quizzes and two exams. In addition, according to his syllabus, he gives us group projects which were very easy. For those of you majoring in Geoscience, I strongly suggest you take him for Mineralogy because he has a strong knowledge on minerals and its properties.

It's a tough upper level class, what can I say. He'll help you but you need to show some initiative. At this level it can't be so easy but he knows his stuff!
