Tests are essays & super tough regardless of how much you study because of how vague the prompts are. Class discussions can devolve into semantics about citations & diction instead of actual ideas. You don't learn about sociological concepts - you learn "the lessons" from sociology you can apply to your own life. I didn't learn what I wanted.

No idea how this woman works for such a great university. The only learning you will do will be from reading books and writing papers. For some reason, attendance is a HUGE deal to her even though attending the actual class is useless.

I took this class, read, wrote papers, did my work, and made an A. I still really didn't like the teacher. 80% of the class was basically a feminism class. Another poster also said it, she will mention how much she overcame as a child atleast 10 times. A good class, ruined by a poor professor.

Took a class with her last year. You have to read, think, write your papers, and show up to class but you learn a lot. Most of the reviews must not have done the this as Dr. Atkinson has won multiple teaching awards at both NCSU and national level.

If you're looking to take a feminism studies class than you need to take soc202 with dr. atkinson. she is hardcore about how bad society treats women. I'm all for equal opportunity but she is just insane. and she likes to talk about herself the entire time. she thinks she is the only person to have had it rough growing up.

She is an intelligent lady, she comes on strong, and a little intimidating. She really makes you think. The work is hard. She has high expectations. I did learn some interesting things. Just be ready to thing in DEPTH, very deep topics
