He knows about the history of the English language. The main issue with instructor is that a student will never improve in terms of a grade. In other words, the instructor tends to assign a similar grade all the year around.

He is knowledgeable and helpful, but he limits his students in terms of doing better in the course. In other words, if a student receives B in the first quiz or exam, he/or she will always receive the same mark. Similarly, in terms of writing an essay, he will always give the same mark even when a student meets his expectations.

He's a sweet man who is a great intellectual as well. However, he is rather boring in delivery, partly because he is older. As a fiend for grammar, I felt well-prepared for the course and he really enjoyed my comments. I wrote a whole essay on a line from Old English and his comment was that I wrote it the same way he would have written it too. :)

Great professor. Very well spoken. I wish I had the same sense of grammar and eloquence which he definitely demonstrated throughout his lectures. Mr. Cummings is a distinguished and professional lecturer. He is accomplished and engaging and presents himself as every professional professor should. The material is complex but he alieviates the pain of it with his incredible use of the english language and empowering dialogue. He's exceptional.

Boring course + boring lecturer=unbearable torture. He is a sweet man, but adds little to make the class interesting. Avoid this class if possible. If you have Kazuo as a TA, you are SCREWED!

He is very knowledgeable, but the lectures are so boring. His speech pattern is a bit odd. Seems like a nice guy though. Willing to help, not too strict about deadlines if you talk to him. You'll learn a lot about grammar, but it can be confusing at times, so don't miss tutorials. They are life savers. Especially Derek's.

He is a very nice man, but I'd like to warn that Approaches to Grammar is an overwhelmingly boring, useless course. Trust me. Taking grammar classes actually worsens you grammar while writing; you can find several academic studies proving this fact. Save yourself the torture, pain, and suffering
