Great professor-Would take a class with him again in a heartbeat! His Arts of Islam class was really fascinating and exampapers were clear cut - no surprises. Had 2 classes in the museum, 2 papers, midterm and final. Only negative is his lectures go over class time so be ready to run to your next class. He is kind of a combo of Lee and Staiti

Comment:

Don't take Art History 100 unless you want to major. Extremely unclear about grading criteria and expectations. Boring and unnecessary memorization of architects' names, buildings' centuries... Never finished class on time. Seldom follow the syllabus. If we don't have time for a topic on syllabus, he just skip it without asking for our opinion.

Michael Davis is a very enthusiastic professor. He speaks eloquently and vividly about ancient Gothic cathedrals. My class, The Age of Cathedrals, was taught via lecture, yet he managed to incorporate discussion into class. He isn't good at getting papers back on time, and often goes over alotted class time.

Comment:

Age of Cathedrals class is interesting and can be entertaining. He often goes over but since I don't have a class right after his, I don't mind. Very helpful and very kind. Not sure about his grading because we STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN OUR first written assignment back; handed in weeks ago. Midterm coming up. Hope it goes well!

You have to take course with him. He is not an easy professor but he is extremely nice and helpful to students. If you ask for help in order to do well in class, he will definitely do ANYTHING to help you. I had such hard time in his class but he really helped me out and I am willing to take all his courses.

The Architecture class was a true lecture class. We had 1 writing assignment and 1 midterm and we will have another writing assignment and final. The outside workload is not bad at all as the readings are not mandatory at all and are used in addition to the class notes. He is very enthusiastic about the topic.

Don't do it unless you have to. Horrible class discussions, bordering on hilarious at how slow they are. Classes often go over the allotted time without good reason, because the material is never that engaging. Doesn't expect much out of students, so they don't give him much in return. Very intelligent and well-meaning but not a good professor.

Great teacher, occasionally hillarious, very understanding. Extremely liberal with deadlines (it seems) but tough grader. Completely agree with the class time issue... it's a bit annoying since being a lectured-intensive class, you really want it to end on time!

Refuses to end class on time, which I don't mind at all in interesting classes, but this was not interesting. Takes a long time in returning work. Tons of memorization, made me wonder why I spent 2.5 hours a week in a class when all I need to do it memorize. Least favorite class.
