I took Dr. Gose for Great Books I this semester and this turned out to be my favorite class... by far. Sure, it's a lot of reading, but you get out of it what you put in. Dr. Gose is on your side and wants the very best out of you because he knows you can do it. Would definitely recommend

I love Dr. Gose. His class is my favorite. He does a lot more reading than all of the other Great Books classes, but our class discussions are super helpful. He relates everything to real life situations. He comes at it from a different perspective, we only look at the books from the views of the authors, not our own opinion or the time period.

Gose STARTED Great Books at Pepperdine. our class understands the ideas behind the books better than any GB kids from other classes I've talked to. Gose's class is full of awesome and challenging conversation. the class is really tight. we have done everything from yell about Plato to race down the halls in rolling chairs. he bought us chinese food

Gose is such an amazing human being! Our whole class not only has a great relationship with him as our professor, but also with each other. The way he facilitates classes makes for great discussion and great community. He really teaches us all how to think for ourselves and how to really read a book! TAKE HIM. It is so worth the challenge!!!

Professor Gose is an incredible teacher. He teaches his students how to think in such a unique, challenging, and life-changing way. In having conversations about the Great Books with students under almost all other professors, I have found that no student of someone other than Gose I have talked with understands the books as well as Gose teaches us

My entire Pepperdine tuition was worth being able to learn from this one man. He helped me learn for the first time. He teaches you how to actually think for yourself. Hands down, best learning experience I have ever had. This class, this content, and this teacher will prepare you for the world in a way no other class or experience will.

Gose is a great person who really likes to challenge the status quo and make his students think. However he is not for everyone. I had him twice, the first time I was really excited to be challenged, the second time I was just frustrated. I am double majoring in English and Philosophy and still could not understand his interpretations of the books.

The best teacher I've ever had, his way of running this class the best way possible. Guaranteed a "B," students are encouraged to push limits & take risks in their papers, enhancing your learning like you would not believe. It is very clear that he is not present for your approval, but for your betterment. The class is wicked hard, but so worth it.

Dr. Gose is a superb professor, whose vast intellect and brilliant wit combine to engage and inspire. He teaches his students wonderfully, not only teaching them the material but also teaching them how to think. Best professor I have ever had in my life, period. One of the hardest, and most rewarding classes I took at Pepperdine - Gose has high standards, but is brilliant, invests in you, and... frankly, I miss him. Truly a great among greats. I am only now, writing this review 10 years after graduation, because I was thinking of his class and missed him!

Freaking genius, the dude taught me how to think differently and how to appreciate college and the liberal arts. Can not speak how highly this guy has influenced me and always makes class easy and is extremely willing to help. TAKE HIM if you get the chance. Not the easiest but if you show up to class and turn in assignments you can get a B easily.

Best professor ever! Just be sure to do the reading. He will probably pick on you, but its all in good fun. If you don't like being put on the spot... Do yourself a favor and don't take him. He was the best Professor, smoking partner, and mentor that I have ever had. All I can say is that his Greatbooks 3 and 4 will change your life. Never lie about reading your books. If you didn't read, tell him and he will respect you more for it (as long as it's not a habit). I learned more from his classes than all my other classes combined.

The Best professor I have ever had. He is not only a professonal teacher but someone of vast knowledge about life and a welcoming mentor. If you go through Great Books without taking gose for at least one you have missed out on what the program has to offer. he STARTED the great books program, and is dissapointed with the way the other teachers teach it. Dr. Gose has very high expectations of his students and you don't want to disappoint. He was one of the best professors that I had at Pepperdine and he really pushes you to think for yourself. I know that if I need anything- I can always e-mail him to ask for help. Take a class with Dr. Gose only if you're ready to work hard in his class.
