The course description is very misleading. Rather than learning about cell biology of stress, class time is spent reading a book about the balance between religion and science. I have not learned anything scientific. Brewster also grades hard and getting an A is difficult, which is not the point of an FYS. I would not take this class again.

Dr. Brewster is so amazing! He made our first-year seminar class fun to go to, even though we're talking about genetics at 8am. He really inspires you to think big on your research ideas and gives really good feedback on research proposals. He's just really easy to talk to and get along with. Definitely take a class with him if you can!

Brewster is the man. Funny and easy to talk to. Not only is he a great guy in the classroom but outside he is an even more enjoyable person to be around. He pushed me, not just in science but also in life. The most outstanding teacher at pepperdine in my book. (study hard though)

Dr. Brewster is a great professor! He is very sarcastic, helpful and easy to talk to. But when it comes to grading, he is serious and can be taken as "mean". He expects you to be a professional scholar who knows how to be responsible and doesn't complain. My advice is that take good notes in class, study his handouts, don't whine, just do your work

Very interesting class. The laboratories were enjoyable. Brewster really wants the students to like him. The tests are difficult! My advice is, take REALLY good notes from lectures, read every chapter of the book and all handouts given, and take the class seriously.
