Comment:
Really glad I took Michaels stats course and paid zero attention to the comments here. I learned to love stats and really understand how to use stats because of him. He's an awesome teacher Point finale. McGill sadly lacks good teachers and Michael is a breath of fresh air in that suffocating institution

McGill is a great university - but not all professors are up to its standards. Prof. Hoover is simply terrible - avoid at all costs! He's self-aggrandizing, sarcastic and obviously unstable; he seems disconnected from reality in an unhealthy way. He mumbles to himself, pauses for extended periods of inner turmoil, and can't connect with students.

Comment:
I am a psych major and this class was tedious, full of busy work and just plan not interesting. On top of that the prof thinks the world of himself and is unsympathetically rigid with rules and regulations. Don't email and ask him questions unless you want to get a curt response laced with sarcasm.

Very arrogant. Loves to hear himself speak. Very traditional approach to teaching. The marking is inconsistent.

Comment:
Professor Hoover was the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. He is by no means even close to the McGill standard! He ended up giving more of a linguistics class more often than an educational psychology one. I ended up with an A in the class, marks are completely arbitrarily dispensed, he's arrogant and downright mean. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

Comment:
He knows his stuff well but is completely arrogant. I get the feeling he is less interested in passing on his knowledge and more interested in hearing the sound of his own voice. The material is beyond boring and the assessments are tougher than they appear. He has the smarts to be a good prof but is seriously lacking in his social skills.

While some of his lectures were very interesting compared to other stats lectures, I had to wonder due to some of his out of class comments and off colored remarks when we went to his office if he is tired of students and teaching in general

One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Prepare to fall asleep every single class. He lectures about topics that are not even slightly relevant to the subject matter. He makes sad attempts at jokes that only he himslef laughs at. I would never take him ever again.

He is in one the best profs I ever had in my 4 years of McGill. I enjoyed his teaching style, his sense of humor and the course material. Exams are not as hard as otherwise suggested by some, you just have to study for them.

An education professor should be a model to future teachers. Prof. Hoover, however, comes to class unprepared, uses the blackboard inefficiently, is unclear, tests irrevelant material in context to the course, and talks to fill the time requirement of the class.

Funny and engaging. Mid-term was fair, but final was a killer. Needs to improve on the way he uses the blackboard: writes all over the place and in an unorderly manner. Learned lots of things from him.
