It is an easy gen-ed providing you are can deduct information from the small readings and write something about it. It is a social science class and so you can't really be wrong just draw on at least one thing from the lectures or readings. 5 minutes of attention in class will get an A. Attendance/weekly paper/participation is 60% exams 40%

Michael is a great professor, don't be fooled by any negative reviews. He truly loves teaching, is super intelligent, and he really wants his students to succeed and learn. The class is not hard at all, as long as you go to the lectures and take notes on what he says. 2 exams, which there are reviews for, and a weekly 300 word paper. He's awesome!

Professor Sugerman does a pretty good job teaching this class but a lot of times lecture is useless. He gives weekly 300 word papers that aren't bad and you turn them in during discussion which is mandatory (and also takes up 60% of your grade). Not really a tough class considering the weight of discussion but would not take again.

Super confusing prof. The slides are not useful. Way too intense. The only reason I'm not failing is because the TA is good

The guy basically wants everyone to be archaeologists and instead of ancient civ. he just teaches about transportation. Slides are super unhelpful, just one word and a picture and he doesn't even post that online. Discussion is a huge part, 1 short essay a week. I got a good TA, but if you get a bad one you're screwed.

Readings are excessively long, boring, and complicated. He takes this class way too seriously for a 100 level gen ed. wants everyone to convert to anthro majors. Slides barely have any information on them, aren't posted online either. Shows a ton of maps in class, doesn't post them online, then puts them on the test for you to fill in.

Although this class had a lot of readings most weeks, this class was fairly easy. Once a week there's a 300-400 word essay due in discussion, but other than that there's no work. The midterm and final exams weren't bad at all! Going to lecture isn't mandatory, but it definitely will benefit you in the long run. Course material was very interesting!

His slides are pointless, so it's hard to pay attention and decide what's important. Also kind of pompous and rude. However, short papers, discussion attendance and discussion participation are 60% of the class, so it isn't too hard to get a good grade.

Class is miserable. Doesn't post slides online and there are no notes on any of the slides. Information is all over the place and hard to follow. Would not recommend taking this class as a gen ed.

Extremely boring lectures, slides have almost no information so taking notes is difficult. Gives anywhere between 50-100 pages of reader per week that you're actually expected to read, then write a page about the readings for discussion section. He repeats himself all the time.

You have to go to lecture and pay attention to get the information. In addition, going to discussion is vital. There is a lot of information that you need to know. The exams are kinda hard, but all multiple choice. In general, it can be an easy class.

Sugerman was a great professor. Really nice guy, happy to help and clarify. Definitely passionate about what he teaches. He's very organized and uses every minute of class packed of info, so be ready to write, but he makes it interesting. Tests are easy if you attend lecture and take notes. Definitely one of my favorite classes. TA's rocked too

He's really passionate about his stuff - and it shows! I think his lectures are really humorous and interesting. The labs were awesomely handled by TA Marc Lorenc, he is the best. Discussions make up 60% of grade, so as long as you hand in the one-page essay and attend, you should be fine.

Sugerman knows his stuff. The class is so boring though, I literally almost fell asleep every lecture. Weekly discussions were only fun due to a boss TA, Marc Lorenc. Weekly pprs were annoying since they required you to do citations. Readings were up to 30 pgs long. Tests were basic, but annoying since they tested random facts from lecture.

I did not attend lectures, but rather only discussions. Discussions make up 60% of your grade and the remaining 40% is from two exams. There are mandatory weekly papers that you must write with accuracy. A lot of articles to read, but just skim them. Exams are multiple choice and a essay response. I would not suggest taking this course as a GenEd.

This class, although some people think it is an "easy gen ed" it is not easy whatsoever. His lectures are the most boring and dry lectures ever, he does not have any words on the ppts, maps, he never posts them online. There are weekly essays and discussion sections where it is mandatory to participate for a good grade. hard tests with so much info

Weekly discussions are they only reason I retained any information. Skimming the readings is annoying but it is the only way you can learn. Didn't go to any lectures and still pulled a B on the test. His lectures are a gift from hell so I advise you not to attend any of them. SO boring, but what history gen ed isn't
