I took Prof Werner's classes 3 semesters in a row. If you're an art history major, take this class. Prof Werner is super knowledgable re: the field, he's experienced in the work, and he's very understanding. If you have no interest in Roman history or antiquity, obviously don't take his classes. He does reading assignments with questions every week

If you enjoy watching paint dry or get joy out of being so bored you forget your in school and not prison then he is your guy. If you have a pulse then this is not the class for you. The most boring, waste of time, useless class I have ever taken.

He's a professor who truly cares about his students and knows a lot of what he is talking about and most important is passionate about it. He travels and takes pictures for his class. Overall great professor.

Mr. Werner is a great guy and you can tell he cares about his material but, EXTREMELY boring class. He turns all the lights off and dryly speaks at you. All the slides posted online and you have 3 online tests which consist of writing 4 essays. For an elective it is a lot of work.

Mr. Werner is not a nice guy. My friend asked why he got an 88 on an exam and instead of helping him, he bumped his grade down to a 72 and said "That's what happens when you ask me to double check your test." Also, I should've had a 4.0 with a biology major but this was the only class that I did not get an "A" in (still don't know why). Do NOT take

I took Greek Archaeology with Mr. Werner and he was amazing. The lectures can be very boring, but he really loves what he does. He is a fair grader and is very understanding that students have a lot on their plate. His tests are open book and online, all short essays, but very easy.

The subject is not that interesting and very dry. He usually reads right off the powerpoints in class so attending isn't necessary. Gives long reading assignments that are easy, just takes a while to do. His assessments aren't too hard and they're open note and online so just look at the powerpoints when doing them. Pretty easy to pass.

Waaay too much work load for an introductory class. He has high expectations on the writings from his students. Homework easily take 3-4 hours each week. Exams are 3 timed essay questions online on BB, and 1 4 page paper. If you don't like writing, stay away from this class! Certain topics were interesting though, learned a lot.

Fantastic teacher. Clearly passionate about Roman Archaeology. Class can be a bit dry at times, but I have an interest in the subject so it wasn't bad for me. The workload can be a little high sometimes (long homeworks), but if you put in the work you shouldn't have a problem getting a good grade. Great teacher and class overall, learned a lot.

EASY A. A bit of work but it's easy work. All tests are online and can take on your own time. Class is only mandatory 2 times throughout the year. Will need the book to do assignments.

If you enjoy history or archaeology than your ratings might be higher. For me, I find this class to be very challenging because history is my weakest subject. He is great with emails and willing to meet in person to explain material. Assignments are online and is open book. As long as you try you will pass. Must do the work though.

He is very passionate about his work. Helpful when you have questions. Easy grader, all the information needed for an A is on the slides, you get the test questions in advance, and you take them on your own time online. i found him to be a decent professor, and ive taken multiple courses with him.

He is passionate about archaeology and will help you when ever you need it. The first couple of weeks is tough becuase he assigns 2 reading assignments per week (20 questions, need text book) and his tests are online and are essays. The material is pretty dry and His lectures put me to sleep he has an unusually soothing voice.

This professor lacks natural communication skills and stresses that if you follow his one sentence comments you will get A's. I cant stress enough that you should not take a class with this professor he will waste your time and get paid to do it. Take any other Classics class or archaeology course but this one at Ualbany.

Great professor and knows a LOT about his field. The class is a breeze if you attend class and take great notes. He is extremely explicit about what you need to do to get an A. His lectures might be a bit dry but if you focus on what he says rather than how he says it (monotone) then you'll get drawn in and love the class. he really inspired me!

Comment:
Fantastic lecturer, but his "interactive teaching methods" can be tedious. Definitely knows his stuff on Roman provincial archaeology, and it shows. Insists on using blackboard and clunky, info-heavy "learning modules" which really take away from the clarity of his lectures, but tests and assignments aren't impossible to get an A on.
