Tough class. Don't recommend taking the online version. Very strict on grading. Wants it done his way.

I am a senior - Prof Wilson is my favorite prof I have taken at UWM. He really cares about you and gets to know you in class. He is so knowledgeable and its so interesting to hear him talk about what he knows. There is weekly readings, quizzes and responses, but if the reading is done you will do well. He's also hilarious, tells lots of jokes. Love

These reviews are blowing my mind. Michael Wilson was one of my favorite professors and despite the fact that people said he does not want you to have your own opinion, I think he really helped me develop my own interests in research for his class. He is definitely a difficult professor in terms of grading, but it is so worth it.

Should have an upper level English prereq. Allows for no individuality among student posts. Must follow his 20 page syllabus to a tee. Each unit takes around 5 +- hours. 90% or higher to pass quizzes to get to next unit. 1 hour wait time in between quizzes. DOESN'T RESPOND TO EMAILS. NO FEEDBACK ON FAILED POSTS. Senior Standing worst teacher yet.

So after waiting over 3 semesters to take a class other than this one for my program requirement I finally had to give in. This class is horrible. All of these reviews are accurate which makes me wonder why no other classes are ever offered so people can stay away from Wilson. He is no helpful, closeminded, and structures this class really poorly.

Vague expectations with no room for individuality or critical thinking. He expects you to regurgitate what you've read and if you use any method of dissecting the text, he'll likely have you rewrite your posts. You must get 90% on a quiz to move on in the unit, and MUST wait an hour before retaking quizzes. Wilson is the worst "teacher" I've had.

The easy thing about this class is that you don't have to think at all. Don't bother critically thinking. This professor doesn't care much for your content, so if you can churn out 1200 words per week average it doesn't really matter how well you digest the material. Thoughtless, poor structure. Begins class defensive of methods; that says it all.

I'm taking English 327 right now (the online one) and I'm about to drop it. When I realized you can only get one wrong on each quiz, and have to retake them til you do, and have to complete 24 units of TONS of reading to get an A, I started to feel like something was wrong with me. Glad to see it's not just me. Too bad I like the readings, but.....

AVOID this class! Lots of work for a mediocre grade. Most work I've ever had to do for a 3 credit online course. If you actually want to learn about Native American Culture, stay far far away from this course. You have to pass quizzes with a 9/10 before unlocking discussion posts and you don't know what questions you got wrong on quizzes.

Sentence structure for questions is awful, tends to over use parentheses for clarification, but they make the meaning less clear. His online class involves 1-2 books a week and requires you to get a 90% on quizzes to even participate in the discussion and the quizzes are pretty hard. Do not recommend

Take this warning seriously - there is A LOT of work. Let me say that again, there is A LOT of work. He has very high expectations in his grading, however his "lectures" aren't very clear, and his grammar is horrific. A topic I would normally be interested in that I am now avoiding like the plague. Dropped this class ASAP.

Lit, history, and sovereignty of Midwestern Indians was a two week online class taken over the winter. It would not have been possible to pass this class without spending at least 4 hours every day, much less receive an A, which would have required 7 hours a day. The subject material was interesting but not structured or presented well.

The quizzes are tedious in their content and impossible to get through in a timely manner. Wilson is unhelpful and seems to have a tough time offering me suggestions when I ask for help - leaving me feeling really stuck. There seems to be no tutor or anyone to see besides him about my trouble with the material. I would not recommend him to anyone.

PLEASE READ: I would strongly advise against taking any classes with this guy. Horrible professor, impossible quizzes, and terrible feedback. He has offered me no advice or alternatives to do better in the class, and has not respected my opinions when I've offered feedback of my own. I honestly feel disrespected and extremely let down.

Do not take this class if you don't have the time. 24 units each consisting of a quiz you must get 910, and three essay Qs. Way harder than you think it will be. I'm about to get a D-. I've never gotten anything below a B- in my life. The subject is interesting though and I like Mr. Wilson. Just really time consuming.

Absolutely awful. I failed this online "English" class halfway through the semester because the amount of course work was horrific and every time I submitted something, it wasn't to his specific standard. I have a cumulative 3.5 GPA (after failing this class) and I'm an English major. His slides for the class were riddled with grammatical errors.

I have never disliked a class more in my academic career! The requirements for this class are so ridiculous. I am taking this class to fulfill my last requirement for my English Minor and I'm afraid I will not pass because I do not write in his specific writing style. He nit picks at every little word in your writing. AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS!

Possibly the worst class I have taken, and this is not because I am unfamiliar with online courses. Insane amount of work and is extremely pick with word choice and the "style" you choose to write in. Unless this is absolutely required or you have nothing better to do with your life, do not take this course.

The expectations for the online class that he teaches is ridiculous. The way that he has the quizzes set up is an absurdity. The only way to achieve the amount of work expected from this course would be to dedicate all the time you have in the day to this course. I suggest avoiding any course that this instructor teaches.
