Make sure to take detailed notes in class. Only need to use your book to go back if you don't understand something. He does not put lecture slides online, so if you miss a class you have to get notes from other classmates. Very funny and easy to listen to. Lecture "reading" quizzes every week. Again, don't study from the book, study from what he teaches on the most and what is underlined in his lectures.

The whole class is lecture, but very informational and entertaining. He really wants students to participate in the discussion. Very laid back. Gives a quiz every Friday. but let's you ask questions before the quiz. Only 2 papers for the semester and they were both 1-2 page double space. He wants to know that you are thinking.

Mr. Gouge is the funniest professor I ever had. Pay attention to his powerpoints and you will do perfect on quizzes (easy) and his exams.His weekly writing assignment are interesting and easy to write.

Good teacher, very fair. Knows his stuff, if you do your work you won't have a problem. He helps a lot too. If you ask him he'll pretty much show you how it should be done. Nice guy.

He's tough as nails, I'll say that much, but you do learn a good deal about really churning out some quality work. I'll warn everyone, this course is VERY stressful, i.e. you'll have to put the kind of work you normally put into 300 level stuff, but if you want to really get better, as a news writer, Gouge is definitely the man to take.

Great professor. Real pratical and down to earth. Really knows his s***, and is very helpful inside and outside of class. The class can either be very easy or hard, depending on how much you care about the subject, but he grades fair and gives some really easy quizes, just to help boost your grade. Take him if you take newswriting.

I think he is great. Yes, he does know what he is talking about so listen. He has worked for a paper and done thier design, don't be so jealous people, you'll have your chance. He can be hard and people seemed to get frustrated with him a lotof the time, but I learned a great deal from him. I think he is the best newswriting teacher.

I believe all Mass Comm majors should have to take Newswriting with him. he forces you to work hard and in the process you learn. It should be a hard class. If you want to really learn to be a good news writer you will take Newswriting with this guy.
