He's a really nice professor and gives you great help if you ask for it. The midterm was very challenging, though. It's annoying that a class that is mostly used for a science req for arts students requires more work than other classes, though...

Ridiculous...the guy clearly knows what he's talking about, but he gets so excited when he gets passionate (which is all the time) and ends up talking about his childhood and Aunt Joyce. Phrases the simplest things in the most unnecessarily long, convoluted way which makes studying for midterms/finals painful. Nice, jolly guy but a terrible prof!

Wow. ALL this guy talks about is how he got trapped in the snow or hiked up some mountain while experiencing some revolutionary cloud change...he's passionate but incredibly hard to follow. go to class, but be prepared to get seriously pissed off at him when he rambles without sticking to the course, making you get behind by 2 weeks like my class.

Awesome prof. He does get sidetracked alot during lectures but it makes them interesting! Geob topics are not exactly the most interesting... so I like that he gets sidetracked and talks about UK, movies, German and Latin. :)

I studied geology in highschool so I was doing good in the course. Bolvis is a fun teacher to have because he talks about jokes and life all the time. This could be bad since he constantly runs off topic. Though encouraged, we rarely used our textbook. His good notes was enough to study for the tests.

Great prof, makes lame jokes from time to time and talks about his aunt joyce from uk all the time. Great help when you ask for it, and his assignments are not hard at all. Class may be boring sometimes but overall a good class

Bovis is passionate with what he teaches and he is knowledgeable about the subject. he goes off tangent a lot during the lectures but he's helpful to answer questions from students. the textbook is completely useless.. hence must take good notes in class. all of the exam questions came from his notes and lecture. labs are very helpful

TAs were inconsistent when it comes to labs and exams. Can be both helpful and impatient sometimes, although I didn't understand most of the the things he blabbed about during lecture..he goes off topic too often. Short but tricky exams. To me, Geob 102 is easier..

Textbook is useless, seriously (posts his powerpoint slides online). He's engaging, funny, speaks loudly, very clear when explaining things. I just wish his voice didn't put me to sleep like it did. Although he explains things crystal clear, the concepts he expects you to understand are almost on a totally different level.

Amazing professor. Really inspires interest in the topic. Very funny, his tangents sometimes had me crying with laughter. Just generally super likeable. Bovis expects you to really understand the material - the class had a low average and the midterm was scaled up twice. Careful! I still managed an A- (and I'm in arts), so it's possible if you try.

For those who are taking this class as a mandatory science credit, this class'll be boring. But Bovis has a hilarious dry British wit if you sit near the front and don't fall asleep. He'll gladly stay behind and talk to you if you need help. Wonderful teacher, hilarious, not his fault rocks are boring. PS. the textbook is almost useless.

He always goes on stupid and pointless tangents, wasting crucial teaching time. The spring session 2007, we ended up not finishing the course, but the material not covered in class was still on the final!! His lectures are confusing, I'd usually fall sleep or just end up not going! :D

Not the best prof, not the worst. I went to class once every other week and that was wayy more than sufficient. Go to every tutorial though, I had Shane as a TA, he was awesome. I would suggest taking geog. in 2 seperate (102/103) sections instead of geog.101 all year.
