His lectures are my absolute favourite. I always look forward to class; lectures are very engaging and extremely interesting. He gives great feedback and assignments are unique and fun. I look forward to more classes with him.

Great Prof! really enjoyed his classes. Always made himself available to help when needed. Provided direction with the paper, however he will not pre-read it for you. That's ok because this is University. He always answered questions and tries to engage you as a student. He is funny and really knows about Ancient Israel. He is an expert.

Really good organization and presentation style. If he thinks he did not effectively get his point across he restates it. If you engage he does engage back. Really wants to see you succeed. Notes were easy to take and text easy to follow. Thank you for a great semester.

I enjoyed him during my time in 1000. Very good lecture notes and was quite funny during class. I did very well in the course. Had him again 2 years later and still did well in the course, but his lecture notes weren't as good which made studying more challenging. Decent over all. At least give a course with him a try.

Comment:

This course probably would have been easy no matter who taught it but Deroche got my attention and really made the class interesting. Midterm & final were fairly easy. Gives great explanations in class and you can easily take notes. He's always willing to help and is very easy to talk to. I highly recommend this prof!!

Terrible, terrible prof. Often skipped out on our class. Very rude when I went to him fo rhelp with the paper that he did not even offer to explain. Expected us to be 4th year students. Gave exams with questions that did not even come from what he taught. Also would not give us any info on the final or midterm simply said it is on the entire text!!

Terrible terrible professor. Nice person and all but hes so boring. I can't focus on him at all, I feel like that class is a waste of my life. He tests on things he barely talks about in class. He asks details about things no one knows, half his multiple choice on the exam were jokes. I do not reccomend

Very easy course. He is a generous marker and the exam was all multiple choice questions. Doesn't take attendance and can sometimes be a little boring. If you laugh at his jokes and study you will do fine. I recommend this prof! :)

I found him to be really lazy. He didn't give constructive feedback on work and although I'm going into the final with an A I have NO IDEA what I'll come out with because I don't know what material to study. He didn't show up for the last class and his lectures were all over the place Some things he teaches have nothing to do with course material.

DeRoche is a great prof. He made the course interesting and the multiple choice exams were easy. I have a 80 average now and have not yet wrote the final. He is funny and very nice. Often arrives late for class, but other then that he's a good prof!

His exam questions are extremely fair but the exams are really long, expects you write way too much in 50 mins. Approachable and very interesting prof to listen to, even if he does go off on tangents once in a while (he's easily distracted and easily excited about the subject matter), pretty funny at times too.

I agree with all the negaitves here - this should have been a simple course but I ended up having to work my butt off. No outlines given for tests other than "whatever's covered in class and whatever's in the book." PLUS - he often contradicted the book, and I lost marks for giving text answers - ???

I think he is an excellent person and he's a pretty good prof. His courses are a little dry sometimes and the movies are enough to kill you but besides that he is very excited about topics and teaching, which is good. Althoughhe never gives a heads up on the tests or exams which sucks, but overall he's a pretty coolguy and teacher.

He won't give you a strait answer to an question. He WILL give you such a long winded answer and raise his voice or 'shame' you so much, that you will either forget what you were asking about or you will have left the room. No logic to his grading or testing. Expects you to somehow exist within his mind and know EVERYTHING.
