Very touch grader. Only did discussion posts and a final, but gave very little feedback. He gave me the same mark for every post, which was annoying.

Comment:

He posts notes, and you write a discussion post about them. Repeat weekly. Sometimes you watch movies. He says to read the textbook, but it's not worth it, it's not tested on. Final is easy. His grammar and spelling are atrocious. Overall, pretty good course. Fairly easy A if you put in any effort at all.

I went into this course thinking it would be interesting... I was totally wrong. The textbook is incredibly wordy and makes no sense. Because he wrote the textbook, it does not help in understanding his lectures. The discussion posts he graded fairly but they were fairly hard and took a lot of time plus commenting on others posts was pointless.

His online weekly lectures are all over the place and so confusing. Also, he makes a lot of spelling mistakes so he doesn't edit his work before posting it. I thought the textbook required for the class would help but he wrote the textbook which is just as confusing and scattered.

Marked only on discussions, a peer evolution and a final. The notes are very dry and not very interesting. I found some of the discussions to be a bit difficult. In saying that the course wasn't so bad. If you have an interest in religion and social justice than I would recommend. Prof is great!

Didn't have much contact with Mike during the semester, but he seemed to be a decent prof to me! The workload was heavy with two discussion posts a week, but not unreasonable. The assignment was easy but he was a bit of a hard marker. The content was pretty interesting and final was easy. Would recommend the course and prof!

Can't say I enjoyed this class because then I would be lying. I took this course because it was supposed to be easy instead it involved more work then any other course that I've done. Due dates weren't clear and I lost marks because the prof didn't say that we had fallen behind in the weekly postings after winter break. Material was boring as hell!

Never gives above 80% no matter the quality of the work. Notes consisted of complete and utter drivel not even associated to the course, he babbles for an entire class and informs you that you probably wont understand what he talks about. which is obvious, because hes talking about his family and his poodle and ignoring everything about the course!

Brilliant. Thought provoking. All of these people who have disparaging remarks are simply incapable of independent learning. Anyone who doesn't get his humour is too bland to recognize his wit.

Really boring and hard to understand. He rambles for most of the lectures and the book isn't any help because he wrote it! Only a few papers with no tests, midterms or finals. Class didn't seem to be important until the last assignment, which was on class work.

Dull is not even the word! Very very boring class, the man rambles constantly and i felt there was no advantage to attending class, but there is no final exam, so thats a plus side i guess

I think that professor Shute is a very nice man. He marks a little hard, but most profs do. He is very funny and helpful. I enjoyed this class and thought he was a great prof!

Oh my God, what is this man talking about. He goes off on random thoughts that make no sense and have nothing to do with course material. Although he is a bit odd he is very understanding and I found him a pretty easy marker. I still wouldnt suggest taking a course with him because class is just too painfull to sit through

Dr. Shute is the best prof MUN has to offer. Yes, he can be confusing, but he clears it all up in the end. Pay attention, do the work and you'll do fine. He's not easy, but he is fantastic.
