Be prepared to read and write an awful lot. Lectures are not that great. Professor Hickman just reads her notes, and always uses pretentious language. Hard to tell if she wants her students to actually understand the material or not.

Incredibly helpful and very friendly, I found Prof Hickman to be one of the best professors at Mcgill. I really enjoyed 203 - to date, it has been one of my favorite classes at Mcgill.

Professor Hickman is one of the best profs I've had at McGill, for sure. I dunno how good she is at lower course levels, but I took a got a lot out of this one. She is highly open and her syllabus is varied, as are her explanations. Take this if course if you're not sure how you feel about modern poetry.

I am surprised by how highly she is rated, 203 was the worst class I have ever taken and I am now changing my major largely because of it. She prints an enormous packet each class and reads the entire thing without ever engaging with audience. Lectures were dense, monotonous, and overly interested in New Criticism. What a shame.

So, I actually had Professor Hickman for three classes of increasing difficulty over my undergrad period. I received a B-, a B and an A-. She's a great lecturer and a really fantastic person. She's granted me extensions, been willing to talk me through difficult points, and she very graciously wrote me a recommendation letter for grad school!

How could anyone say anything bad about her? The sweetest, most helpful, inspiring professor out there. If you try you will succeed, and you will love it. I admit that H.D.'s prose didn't do it for me which made the class less rewarding than it could've been, and her lectures on that got a bit dry. That's just personal opinion though. She's great.

Sweet, interesting, inspiring, made the class interesting and fun to go to. Really helpful in office visits and emails. Lectures were a bit fast paced, but over all very good. I absolutely loved her...and then the final came. Absolutely brutal.

It's impossible to say anything negative about Professor Hickman. Never have I ever had such an amazing professor or teacher in my life, no joke. She really goes out of her way to help students. She was so approachable, gave great feedback, encouraged students' opinions; you can tell that she genuinely loves teaching. She's the best!!
