Super easy class. The lectures are too slow in my opinion, but she certainly explains everything. I've heard that if you need help, she will take the time to work with you outside of class.

Monika's class was probably the toughest course I've taken thus far in my degree (I'm second year), but she is seriously one of the most inspirational and caring profs I've ever had. She is incredibly intelligent and insightful. She genuinely cares for all of us. The way she implements a deep Christian implication to the course is admirable.

In my experience, Dr. Hilder started off as my least favourite professor. She is a hard marker and really appreciates class participation and discussion. However, as soon as I went to her in her office about a paper, she told me how to fix it. I went from a C+ to an A. She is very sweet and cares about her students, but you have to put in the work.

I love Dr. Hilder's classes, but she is a hard marker. There is a lot of reading and sometimes the lectures are dry, but she's very sweet. She cares about her students and their opinions.

I enjoyed being in Mrs. Hilder's class. I am not an English major, so I am not too interested in the actual English teaching. We had some pleasant discussions and novel studies, and she gives good feedback, although she can grade on the tough side. I had a nice semester in English 103, but I am glad to not have to do any more.

Monika is a lovely professor. She is potentially one of the most intelligent, insightful individuals I have ever met - which can sometimes be intimidating - but she encourages her students to participate in a way that is entirely comfortable. Despite what some of these reviews say I found her grading to be incredibly fair and feedback super helpful

Mixed feelings about Dr. Hilder. The class itself was interesting but I wasn't very keen on her teaching methods. She is a very hard marker as well which can be discouraging however she does provide constructive criticism.

Hilder is not a good teacher. She rambles about fantasy novels that hardly apply to the class and is completely biased in her marking. In a personal response essay she told me my view was wrong. Definitely has favorites.

Very nice woman who takes time for her students, really wants to help you. I didn't find her to be a terribly hard marker, just make sure you back up your arguments (like you would in any class). The drama assignment is fun. Discussions could be really dry. Ask her if you need help.

I had Monika for 103 & 104 and she really is a great lady. The discussion in class is interesting but often dull. Marking wise, I found her frustrating because papers I felt I had done well one I got a bad mark and papers I thought I had done well on . . well not so much. Guess that's why I'm not in English. Cool lady and takes time for students.

Easily the worst teacher I've had. Her one good point is quite valid: that she takes a genuine interest in her students. However, she's there to teach which she can't. I had one of my papers written by an English Major --> 60%. Explain that garbage. No comments on why I got that mark. Terrible terrible terrible.

I found her to be a very difficult marker. After seeing her about my mark and essays, I went back and revamped my style, improved the things I needed to do. With confidence in the hard work I had put in and meeting all her requirements only to get another D. I have a 3.6 gpa and i got a D in her class. Doesnt make sense.

Some of the comments about Dr. Hilder are rude and totally uncalled for. I loved Both of the classes I took with her. She showed genuine interest in my life and provided great insight concerning the literature we studied. Even though I've never really liked English, I was considering switching majors just from seeing her passion for her subject.
