class is completely unrelated to assignments, which is fine - means you don't need to attend class but need to teach yourself material in order to do the assignments (not as hard as it sounds). he has ridiculously socialist ideas so expect to be enraged if you're conservative.

Frankman is a brutal lecturer, but the good thing is that he knows it, so he balances out with several speaker panels, an amazing lecturer (Pushkar), and videos. His own articles are among the best; truly a man of vision. His assignments are ridiculously easy, and the material is very interesting. Highly recommendable.

Easy class, but lectures are extremely boring and all over the place...you can't even hear him very clearly!? However, he is a very knowledgable and approachable...just not a great lecturer.

easy, easy class. If you're in econ, take this class with him because its an easy b+ or A. Just assignments, no final, and as long as you put a little (yes, only a little) effort into the assignments you'll do fine. Literally, no point in ever showing up to class- what for? - you're not going to be tested on anything. very nice prof

Genuinely nice prof who cares for his students. His teaching style is more suited to a small class and not this class of 200/300. To his benefit, this was the first time INTD 200 was taught so they're still working out the kinks.

He may not be the most organized prof in the world but he makes up for it by being the most sincere and dedicated econ profs around. Frankman's restored my faith in mandatory IDS courses and in the economics discipline in general. Progressive, attentive and provides a refreshing alternative to neo-liberal econ dogma. He's lovely. Give him a chance.

Horrible class, but unavoidable since it's requiered. On the last day i counted only 45 out of 300 students attended. Lectures were rambling, uh..uh..uh..uhhhhhh...and unclear. He mumbles like it's his job. Class and readings had nothing to do with papers and the final. Easy class but boring as hell

I found the lectures to be extremely boring, and I did not get much out of them. The readings are interesting, and the class is structured in such a way that you don't have to go to lectures or read any material. The highlight of the class were the panels not taught by him. He means very well and I'm sure he's brilliant, but is not a good lecturer

This class has the potential to be amazing, but is soured by the Prof's inability to deal with a large class. A really nice person but plain and simply bad lecturer. Lectures are absolutely useless, and marking has nothing to do with how much you know or have studied development. A real disappointment.

This was a real disappointment. Clearly a prof that means well and has done great things in his field, but his style isn't compatible w/ a large intro-level lecture. Lectures are non-existent (power points full of long quotes or just irrelevant graphs), a terrible orator and direction-ness day after day, even as the room gets more empty.

The easiest class I have ever taken at McGill - put in the effort, you will get an A. That said, this is also the least I have ever learned from a class at McGill. The papers have nothing to do with class, and there is no incentive to do the readings or go to class. It's what you make of it.

Like most things in life, you get out of his classes what you put into them, only more so. The smaller the class, the better he functions. He is also one of the least organized profs I've ever seen, but hands back things faster than most. he cares.
