Nan is straight foward and honestly makes getting a good mark achievable. If you don't read the text or go over your notes you won't do well simple as that. She doesn't try to trick you. What she says to study is literally what's on the test. Don't be rude and on your phone as she isn't fan of that she will call you out

I learned quite a bit from Nan in this class. If you miss a class or don't understand something, she is very welcoming during office hours and will help you out. Nan is very opinionated and doesn't seem to accept views that contradict hers; that said, she is a fair marker. Overall, it was a good class.

Was quite dissapointed with her class. Constantly complained that she had better things to be doing. I learned very little in this class. 4 Classes were missed this year due to holidays, so she said we had lots to catch up on, but let us off really early every class. Not to thrilled cause I payed good money to go to her class for nothing

While completing my BA, I had the pleasure of taking classes with TRU's finest- Nan. She will challenge you, but if you attend class and don't understand something she will be happy to explain during office hours. She is very passionate about sociology, teaching and the success of her students. I could not have asked for a more supportive prof!

Doesn't use moodle, so you must attend class for lecture notes. Quizzes and midterms are pulled from lecture notes and textbook, so definitly get the book. Recommended for 1st years

Not the friendliest person I have ever met. Has good days and bad days - I personally would switch out if I had her again.

Very clear professor. Great for first year students as she'll help teach you how to be a university student. She'll try to scare you 1st day of class but she's not really scary!

She was startling and seemed mean at first, but you warm up to her once you realize she actually has quite a good sense of humor. She's very passionate about what she does, and she explains things pretty well. She's hard to hear, but she repeats things a lot so you're always able to get the notes down. It's really important to read the textbooks.

She comes across as a little scary at first. You have to EARN her respect; she doesn't just give it away like how other profs seem to. If you take her class seriously, she will treat you with abundant kindness. Her tests are moderately easy; know the lecture notes, AND the texts in order to achieve above a C+. You get back what you put into it.

Nan is overall a good lady, and loves what she teaches, my first midterm in her class i got a b- .. which i thought was pretty good . She has 2 midterms and 1 big assignment in groups. i enjoy her class just be prepared to take a lot of notes, she lectures but the nice thing is that she repeats what she says so you do not miss anything :)

Constantly refers to 1st year students in a derogatory way. Uses a condescending tone to lecture the class. Difficult to hear (even in the front row) due to a lot of mumbling. Lectures lack organization and structure.

I'm bipolar with Nan. Totally love her at times and other times I can't stand her. Good prof overall but I've been hesitant to take another course with her. Not bad. B grade in my books.

She seems really strict and mean at first, but softens up after a few classes. The classes are semi-boring, mostly note taking, but she clarifies what shes talking about. Interesting class discussions, and kind of funny.

In future I will avoid Nan as best I can, however she's not terrible. You will work for your mark, that I can assure you of. Lectures were boring and exams were fair provided that you read the text like 3 times. It was a brutal text, and very dry and complicated, Nan admitted it herself. Not a terrible prof, just not one I'd seek out again.

Very entertaining, engaging, informed, open, and any other good adjective you can think of ;) She showed me how interesting Sociology is, how it is a part of our life and not just information to rot in a textbook. Do not be frightened by her passionate energy (or her extremely loud voice, haha), because you will soon be swept up in it! wonderful!

Nan knows how to get your attention. She's one of those profs who can get you interested in what they're teaching. Wasn't too stoked on taking Soci until I had Nan last year. SUPER funny woman, full of quirks!
