Comment:

His lectures are easy to understand and follow just be sure to go over notes every night to retain what you study. His homeworks are usually difficult problems that are very helpful to study for tests.

Comment:

Great professor, hard class. He has no lecture slides or notes to access outside class, so you if you skip you'll fail. He knows each student by name and is easily accessible outside class. Homework is done in groups, and LOTS of partial credit is given, even on tests. Take really good class notes, study them, and show your work and you'll do fine.

Comment:

Professor Sivakumar is an excellent instructor. His lectures are always well prepared and engaging. He focuses on formal definitions and rigor, but doesn't ignore application. Pay attention in class and absolutely go to his office hours, he cares for his students and their success. One of a kind professor, if you can take his class, it will pay off

Comment:

Professor Sivakumar gives very clear lectures (and says funny remarks every now and then) which makes it easy to follow. He gives a homework assignment once a week and gives three exams total (each is non-cumulative). There are no extra credit opportunities but overall he's a great professor that cares for his students.

Incredible professor, very difficult class. He will teach you math; even if he has to beat you until you learn it (which he jokes about regularly) Be prepared to go to class, take good notes, study hard, and still struggle! But the struggle is how you learn. Highly recommend. If he says something will be on the test, it will be on the test!

His tests are difficult but he provides the resources you need to succeed. He's a super helpful professor! The material is intimidating in the beginning, but he is able to keep things consistent enough for you to get the hang of things quickly. Definitely take him if you will further your education in math, if not, I wouldn't take his class.

This man has his lectures memorized. All of the exams are based on the lecture. There were 3 exams and no final. Homework is due weekly but you can work in groups to get it done. He tells funny stories, is very passionate about teaching and makes a great effort to answer questions if you're confused. He has office hours and should go to them!

If you have a chance to take one of Sivakumars courses, do it. Tests are entirely based on lectures, so the best thing you can do for yourself is show up and take excellent notes. Also, going to office hours WILL pay off. Overall one of the best educators Ive encountered. Clearly knowledgeable and passionate. 10/10 would recommend

171 is just a tough class in general but he really tries to help everyone learn the material. I am definitely glad I took him because I've probably learned more from his class than any math course I've ever taken.

Dr. Sivakumar is not the kind of teacher to simply hand his students a high grade, but he gives them many opportunities to earn it. The subject matter in his math 171 class is challenging (at least for me, it was), but he does everything that he can to make sure that everyone is able to follow along. The Rowan Atkinson videos are a plus as well.

Personally, Ive come across few people who possess both passion for their subject, and the supreme ability to teach. Sivakumar is definitely one of those. He cares a lot and expects the best from his students. Any negative reviews are surely only from those who couldnt keep up with the demanded higher level of thinking req. for this course.

Sivakumar lectures and writes things on the board & his tests are based off of the lectures. 1 hw a week usually due friday's, harder than the lecture, would recommend doing it monday & asking questions. very difficult course to understand, class averages for tests were failing. studied so hard & made <25 on the 1st exam. would not take this class

He cares for his students! He doesn't lecture off notes but he has his lectures MEMORIZED. Every day in class he tells either a joke or a story: lots of good memes come from him. The material he teaches is extremely difficult (that was my biggest problem) but he brings you to his level and you get so far ahead of the other students.

His Math 172 class is the hardest math course I've taken before, but has immensely prepared me for future coursework due to the proof-heavy and detail oriented nature of the class. Dr. Sivakumar presents challenging exams, yet is one of the most caring and patient teachers I've ever had. He was always willing to assist with questions/difficulties.

Dr. Sivakumar is hands down the best Mathematics professor on campus. There's not even a slightest moment that you would think to challenge Siva's ability nor his passion for teaching. No doubt it's a challenging class, however, if you show up for class every day and go talk to him about maths whenever you're free, I guarantee you would excel.

Extremely difficult class, but this professor will know every students name because he cares immensely. Class is always fun because he tells jokes and makes you laugh so hard even when you're struggling to know what's going on. Attendance is not mandatory but if you miss notes you won't pass. Loved the professor, wish he would teach me again

Dr. Siva was honestly one of the greatest teachers/professors I have ever had at any grade level, in any subject. Cal 2 is a difficult class in general, but with the help of Dr. Siva's office hours and lectures, it is by no means impossible. Dr. Siva was also a really funny guy and very approachable. I wish I was allowed more words to describe him.

ya boi is about to fail 172, the last question is being graded currently but i don't even care. I will absolutely take him again. His class is very difficult not because his tests are unreasonable, but because his tests reflect the high level that he teaches. You will get your money's worth of knowledge by taking his class

Highly recommend. He is hilarious and super nice. You must go to class to be successful, even though its not mandatory. The tests are very hard, but doable if you commit the time and effort. He understands that the nature of the material is challenging and is patient as long as you're trying.
