Comment:
The lectures were fairly decent and build on the videos assigned. He tries answering questions but sometimes gives out responses that are hard to follow. There are no reviews for any of the exams so it is hard to study for them. There are pop quizzes and most hw problems assigned are difficult. Overall, this class makes you WORK for a decent grade.

Pop quizzes are difficult and random. Tests are based on videos, hw, quizzes, and the book, plus there's no review. There can be 3 quizzes in a week or 0. You must always study and prepare ahead by reading a whole chapter and doing over 10+ problems he assigns each day (which aren't for a grade). He's very condescending to the struggling students

Good notes in lectures. Appreciated the sessions with the TA. Homework online is annoying and sometimes requires some more time, but ignoring it risks giving up an easy grade. Good after being familiar with Calculus.

Dr. Brand is an excellent teacher. If you want to spend thousands of dollars just for a grade, take an easier teacher. If you want to actually learn and be challenged take Dr. Brand. I genuinely like going to Dr. Brand's class, I never leave feeling like I didn't learn something, or like my time was wasted.

Dr brand is actually a good prof. attend the class so you don't get lost. Tests are fairly easy, all free responses but dr brand is pretty easy with his grading. Rec is helpful and offer a lot of practices. I would say that this class is harder than other calculus classes tho. We don't get extra credit or curve.

Dr. Brand is a great lecturer. You will fail if you do not put in the work. His homework is usually harder than the actual test. If you spend time to understand the basic concepts and how to apply it, you will get an A in his class for sure.

He is a great lecturer. If you show up, take notes and get help if you need it you'll do fine. Ask questions if you are lost, he is great at explaining topics. Homework was given after every new topic(about 3 a week). I highly recommend not to buy the new textbook and just get the online MyMathLab with the online book. Don't spend the $300.

He is a great teacher but a really tough grader. He has a lot of quizzes and homeworks which are fairly do-able. However, his exams are really difficult if you don't show enough work you will not get credit. He gives a lot a questions but not enough time to finish the whole exam. Overall, it is possible to pass his class, you just have to work hard

The hardest tests I have ever taken. The class average for exams is about 50%. I have never been so tremendously stressed. Our final exam review contains content from Cal 2 and 3, and he expects us to understand it. He is a good lecturer, but gives way to hard of exams.

This class was the hardest class I have ever taken. Attendance is not mandatory, but a little helpful if you go. He quickly works through examples in class and skips steps which make it confusing. He gives long exam reviews, but no answers. The grading was done by 5 TAs, so each exam was inconsistently and harshly graded. Overall, DON'T TAKE HIM.

Dr. Brand is passionate about what he teaches, and his interest shows in his lectures. His tests were hard, but they were fair. He makes you work for your grade, but I walked out of his class learning so much. If you want to LEARN, take Dr. Brand.

Dr. Brand is a great teacher and lecturer and explains the concepts really well. He gives quite a lot of homework everyday and his tests are quite difficult in comparison to other classes, but if you work for it and study, you can make an A. He is a little uptight about classroom procedures, but it's ultimately to help student understanding.

Class is long and boring but then again I am not interested in Calc. He has a really easy grading criteria to follow. quizzes are take home, he gives out a review before the test. In order to pass the tests make sure that you know how to work the problems in the review and you will be fine. If you work hard you can easily make an A in this class.

Very engaging lecturer. Lets you tell him what you think and then shows you where your errors are so you don't just see that you made a mistake, but why you made the error.

Dr. Brand is hilarious and a great lecturer. He's good at teaching, but there's a somewhat large amount of homework from the textbook on the stuff he'll be teaching next class period.

The two reviews below are obviously TAMS because that was the only 1720 class he had but I agree with the more recent one. With paying attention during lectures and a little effort getting an A is very feasible. Aside from that he is a great person and has a fantastic teaching regiment.
