Professor Madras is one of the better profs in the Math department. He did a good job of explaining difficult material. Be prepared to do your homework though. The actual tests were department wide so you can't fault him for how difficult they were, he made up for it by giving a big bell curve(about 10%) as the average was very low.

Clear speaker. Messy but always legible handwriting. Good at explaining concepts. Messes up his physics during derivative examples. Integrals were rushed.

Prof Madras is the best 1st year calc prof at York, so take him. The average for his tests is around 50% (it is lower in other sections), so he bell curves by about 10%. He is easy to hear and understand. He gives WebAssign only a couple of times instead of weekly, so you won't be too busy doing assignments. Notes not online, so attend lectures.

Very friendly. One of the most approachable profs I've had. Madras is also very strict with regards to evaluations (assignments and exams). Every error will be noted and corrected. But this sort of perfectionism can only push one to be better.

Unlike some other profs he actually teaches the material, and does it well. He gives his own examples (ie he doesn't just read the book). He uses his own lecture notes and writes on the board. Very friendly guy. Overall, highly recommended.

he's an amazing lecturer.. his lectures really prepare u well for the tests which are fair... but if u can just understand and solve the problems in the textbook then ur set to get an A in this course. he gives out recent practice tests which are verry helpful. If ur gonna take calculus, take it with Neal Madras!:)

One of the toughest math course ever, every weekly assignment was almost like project. He gave us sample exams and yet the real exam was no comparison to that because it was WAY TOO HARD (basically he killed everyone of us). He lied about the difficulties of the exam.

Wonderful lecturer, clear and explains all concepts very well. His section is always full because you learn in his class. Tests and exam were very reasonable (borderline easy) but very picky with marking (ie. he tells the TA to take off marks for very small things). Not the most helpful prof, often "doesn't have time to help you right now."

Despite the fact that the material in 1014 is harder than in 1013, I'm finding this class much easier because of Prof. Madras. He is an excellent lecturer and makes certain that students understand the logic behind concepts. Also, his tests are very straightforward (even easy).

His class is always full. He's great. His tests are medium and fair. Unluckily, I couldn't take his class since I enrolled in the other section. I tried to switch but it's too late. Still, I always sneaked in his class to take notes.
