He knows his stuff really well. Not many tests, just a midterm and a final. Both are essay tests, so be prepared. He gives good examples, so just pay attention during lecture. Half the class is usually spent on discussion, so don't be afraid to participate. Grading criteria is pretty straight forward. If you know what's happening, you'll be fine.

Ned really knows his stuff. He is very intelligent and uses a lot of examples to help you understand. It's hard to know what exactly he wants on the midterm and the final but if you ask for help, he will gladly give it.

Ned is good at teaching, and he is very knowledgeable. His speaking style is very informative, and he explains principles with many examples. His slideshows are very straight forward, and he always gives the class a heads up concerning due dates and tests. He speaks mechanically, but in a good way. He does not rush his classes.

Ned is a nice guy, but I disliked this class. I was not interested in questioning if I was real or not, or using unrealistic hypothetical stories to create arguments. Grade is based 40% on midterm & 60% on final, which is rough. (2 inclass essays). Prof is unclear and does not make sense when explaining objections to arguments. Teaches by powerpt.

I really enjoyed Ned's classes. I've never had any interest in Philosophy and I didn't want to take this class, but after a few days I enjoyed going. He is really interesting and his lectures are helpful. He goes over the home that is due the next day and does them for you.

Only 2 exams; the rest is simply lecture. Do not be tempted to skip unless you plan on memorizing the book, which he co-wrote! Easiest way to get an A on exams is to reiterate the exact same examples he uses. All topics are fair game for exams and are randomly chosen day of, so MEMORIZE EVERYTHING. Dry sense of humor and wit. Annoyed easily?

Go to class EVERY DAY and really listen. Ask questions and get into discussions. Doing that meant that I didn't have to take notes and only had to memorize a few terms before the test. Pay attention and on the test over explain everything and you'll get an A.

His lectures were fascinating and entertaining. I didn't like the lack of a textbook though, although his in class notes are very thorough. I'm a slow writer, so I didn't enjoy how your entire grade was based on in-class essays.

Great class. Ned's teaching style is perfect for people who aren't too interested in philosophy. No text book, maybe ten pages of reading the entire quarter. Print out his notes memorize the terms/concepts for the tests, if you do this you will get an easy A. 2 tests , midterm is 30% and final is 70%. Ask a lot of questions to clarify if confused!

I went to almost all the study groups and studied for the final for days, but his style of teaching is that everyone already understands logic so it become incomprehensible to the average person. Do not take this class! take it with Downing, then you won't regret taking this class with Ned, like I do.

It's pretty simple; read the book (well, 1/4 of the book, anyway), go to class to brush up on concepts you don't understand, and you're golden. 45% of the grade is homework, with the other 65% (no, that's not a typo) on tests. As long as you keep up with the homework, the tests shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I found the material fairly easy and he goes over it A LOT, there is a lot of time for review and he does examples from the online homework in class so you get a couple of freebies. Go to class, ask questions, and do the homework. Ned has a great sense of humor and you can tell he loves to teach.

Ned's not a bad prof. He's nice and goofy, (not in the lame way). But the thing is, getting a 4.0 in his class is really effin difficult. With a midterm weighing 40% and a final weighing %60, you really can't afford to slip up even once. I had a 3.95 GPA but dropped 0.05 points after his class, which is depressing if you're anything like me.
