Comment:
Hud is favorite philosophy professor at WWU. He has some ambiguous expectations for 366, and his lectures were tough to follow for casual learners and aspiring philosophy majors alike, which makes office hours a must. Thankfully, he is intelligent, articulate, kind, caring, and knows what he's talking about. Allow yourself at least one dose of Hud.

I took this class my freshman year in order to complete a GUR. I showed up to class about 80% of the time. No textbook. Hud was kind/ flexible as long as you communicate. Without his lectures, you'll fail. If you go and take thorough notes, you'll do great. He gives you the test questions; if you can write word-for-word what he says in class: A!

Hud is all around a super cool guy. He knows what he's talking about, and don't dare question him because he can prove anything he says in depth. He was funny and the class was super easy if you showed up and took good notes. It's mostly memorization on the 3 written exams that make up your grade. Good choice for an easy GUR.

One of my favorite professors at Western. Hud enjoys what he teaches and ensures that the class really understands all of the difficult material. He gives out the test questions ahead of time and tells you the exact answers during the review session. Made me actually enjoy philosophy.

Hud is my favorite professor so far in college. He is wonderful, brilliant, and willing to engage with you at length outside of class. He holds you to a high standard and made me a better philosopher through it.

Really smart, respectable professor. Definitely knows what he's talking about. Gives good lectures and the exams are based off of his lectures, there is no reading required. He goes through every question on the study guide for the exams which makes them a lot less intimidating. Definitely recommend if you are taking a philosophy class.

One of the best teachers I've had so far at Western. By far the coolest. He made philosophy of religion far more interesting than I ever thought it could be. If you have the chance take a lecture with Hud!

I didn't care for his teaching style. He talks at us for the whole hour, does not lend a lot of room for student contribution, and has trouble gauging student comprehension. However, his study guides are the exact questions that will be on the test, which makes the class an easy A.

Entire class broken into 2 essays, a midterm and a final. Lectures are very intelligent but occasionally hard to follow and he doesn't check for comprehension well. Not a super clear grading criteria for the essays. No textbook required.

If you come to class and are engaged in the material, you'll do wonderfully. The lectures are great for an intro-level philosophy class and if you're confused about anything or have any interesting tangential thoughts about the material, he'll explain things and help you explore ideas if you visit his office hours

He is so knowledgeable about philosophy, his lectures were great. If you don't go to class, you won't know what on earth is going on, so attendance is a must. There is no canvas page, so make a buddy in the class! If you need clarification on something, he is great at explaining things in better detail. I enjoyed his class a lot! Also, no book!

Heavy metaphysical dude. He's got the nickname Gunk Hudson in my book. If you take him, ask him about gunk or read his papers on it. Also check out his literature blog on his web sight. He's also got some cute picture of his dog up there. I've never met such a tall man who looks so much like such a small dog. :) I admire his ethics when it comes to

My favorite professor in the department. If you're considering majoring in philosophy and aren't sure yet, take a class with him. I didn't think I was interested in philosophy of religion at all, but after a class with Hud, my opinion was totally changed.

If you don't go to class you won't get an A. That being said, you definitely want to go to class because it's always interesting. Maybe not the most approachable guy, and his answers sometimes leave you more confused than you were before you asked him the question, but he makes philosophy fun anyhow. He also has a cool office and a nice voice.

I had Hud for a prof in the late 90s. Here I am now. What does that say? A lot, I think. At the time, I didn't appreciate what an incredible teacher he was. In fact, I gave him a pretty harsh evaluation at one point. Now I would say that he is truly an amazing teacher who had a big influence on me.

Hud's love of the subject matter is infectious and he easily demonstrates why people continue to study philosophy. Yes, I worked hardâ€"I took several classes from Hud including a 400-level independent study course in the mid-1990's. If you do well in his class you should be able to handle graduate or professional school.
