Lectures are purely optional, and a little funny if you catch his old fashion humor. Tests are purely textbook.

No point in ever going to class, do your readings thoroughly on your own schedule. (i finished my readings well ahead of time and never went to class). Tests are very easy, based purely on textbook, he goes way off topic during lectures but none of it is tested so you could come for interest, don't bother with notes. Easy A+ if you do readings.

dun waste ur time to go to class cuz he post videos on moodle and he gives useless summaries of every chapters. there r 40 MC on all midterms, but the 1st and 2nd midterms worth 40% of ur final grade; the 3rd one worth 20%. no final exam and assignments. tests r fair if u study well.

One of the worst profs I've ever had. He goes on and on about things that don't pertain to the topic. When he does talk about the course content, it's extremely hard to follow. Exams are super easy but I basically just read the textbook and learned from there. I would take this course with a different prof if you actually want to learn.

one of my favourite courses in my 3 years at york. material is interesting, about 95% of each test is based on the text (2-3 questions based on videos watched in class). some of the lecture material is hard to follow, but it's not tested on so it's just bonus knowledge. i'd for sure take another course with this prof!

This is the WORST professor at York University. His lectures are average at best, consisting of a movie (which was kind of cool) and him going off on all sorts of tangents. His tests were difficult and consisted of confusing questions. He and his TA (Josh) were unhelpful to students as they were always unavailable and inflexible to meet students.

It's madatory to attend class ! He tends to go off topic a lot so you need to make sure you know what would be relevant for the exams. The textbook is an easy read but the exam questions can be tricky ! If you understand the concept of evolution and you read the text thoroughly and take notes during lecture you'll be fine but it's hard work !!!

The subject matter is not difficult at all, it's the prof and TA that make this course a nightmare. Prof Weiner has a tendency to ramble and so you can never really tell what is going to be important. Josh the TA doesn't care about students, will not provide any extra help, writes impossibly confusing tests and doesn't even read the text book.

This is an area I am interested in, I read the textbook, attended class, and still the exams very unclear. I am all about testing the material, but when they make the questions as convoluted as possible, it doesn't act as a good gauge for testing knowledge. Material was interesting; but take at own risk due to the badly written exams.

Dr. Weiner did an excellent job at making this course interesting and has a lecture style that I wish was more common. Rather than droning on section by section, it's like you're watching a knowledge-packed play that includes a historical context and explanations as to WHY things are the way they are in this field.

decent lecturer showing old but interesting videos.Strange sense of humor. TA's write exams but if you get great ones like Josh Smith and Jean Nankoo you are in good hands.they took over the course when prof did not come back after the strike. Challenging but fair tests. Highest mark was 91 (after 3 percent was added to the class).Understanding of

In class, he just put up articles and showed videos. I didn't find that any lecture material was included in the tests. The textbook is an easy read and very interesting. The tests are largely based on the text, and are a bit difficult but not if you have read the chapters well. He is horrible at answering e-mails.

His lectures are simple and he shows videos to get the point across. The readings are fairly easy but long. They take what was taught in class and explain it in further detail. The exams are fair but the MC are pretty tricky. The class average wasn't that great. He also wasn't available after the strike so the T.A.'s had to take over the final. :(

loved the class! yes getting an 'A' isn't easy, but the lectures and textbook were awesome! he really knows his stuff, i feel so lucky to have taken a class of his! you really get to know the motives behind an animal's actions, which you can then pretty much use on us humans. if you want true education, please take his class!

Awful Professor! Lecture is very 1980's video oriented. Textbook is quite difficult and has a lot of information to remember. His tests are nearly impossible! I am an A student and i got C's on his tests. He ditched us after the strike so the TA's were left to make the final exam. DO NOT take this class!! Trust me you won't regret it

Fair Tests; Interesting lectures; Focuses on the principle and applications of evolutionary biological theory. (that implies most of the population norm will not do well) But for those who wish to really learn, this is the prof to look for! 100% (this implies study the theory of evolution and understand it before taking his class, i got A 4 that)

Cool guy, really funny, classes were super interesting. People complained that his tests were hard, but i did ok, just keep up with his readings, and listen to the lectures and you will be fine. He know TONS about animals, and showed some neat movies. one of the best profs i've had.
