Niall is a really nice guy, but he doesn't explain the assignments very well. He doesn't give many assignments, but he is a hard marker compared to most other profs at Langara. He's got a good sense of humour and makes an effort to learn every students name and be available to them for help. Lots of reading, which should be expected, it's history.

A kind and intelligent gentleman and professor. Dr. Christie gives lectures with ease and grace, and does his very best to communicate the material to each and every student. Take impeccable notes, and pay attention to details he highlights. They could reappear on exams.

really interesting lectures - does not put up notes so you must keep up on them. Very straight forward with expectations in the class - and keeps to them. Wants students to do really well, so is very helpful. Great professor.

wonderful prof gotta keep up with the notes. he has a great sense of humour. Very patient and extremely helpful after class and during office hours. Love students who ask questions during lecture highly recommend Dr. Christie before going to class be sure and watch the life of Bryan girls he's a real cutie too

great class Prof Christie really knows his stuff. He's very helpful easy to talk to and funny I really enjoy this class. Hope he teaches more Islamic courses at UBC. this is a must for anyone interested in middle eastern history from an Islamic angle.

Very easy course material and essays (you get to pick the topics for two out of four) and he doesn't hesitate to give out As. Willing to engage in off-topic debate, and open to answer any question. Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. First term is a bit battle-centric, but it gets better. Only warning is that he is very picky on grammar!

I took Arts One two years ago, & after having dozens of other profs I think it's fair for me to say that Christie is one of the few rare profs at UBC that actually carries a sincere sense of humanity and sensitivity -- a good teacher, even with the bad students.

DO NOT take any of his classes. Possibly one of the worst profs I've had. He makes Islamic Art appear boring and without character. He takes a beautiful piece of architecture and tears it apart to the mundane. Easy--if you can endure the boredom.

He is very funny, and cracks loads of Monty Python Jokes...make sure you know those movies, and he'll love you. He is a pretty difficult marker, and will not give you a grade unless you deserve it. Overall, he's totally fine.

Very difficult class that is history laden..get ready to take TONS of notes..but as a prof he is witty, funny and always willing to answer questions although I agree that if he knows you by name, he tends to be nicer to you.
