Old school. Stands at the front and TEACHES for nearly 3 hours, with hardly any multi-media. But - interesting and engaging, so you will be able to concentrate. Knows his period deeply, sets interesting readings, and is helpful if you ask sensible questions. Only criticism is he doesn't give useful essay feedback unless you ask for clarification.

His 2nd year British History class felt more like a 4th year class. His expectations were way too high, especially given his assignments didn't really match up with his lectures and he wasn't clear about what he wanted. I went to his office hours and he really seemed like he didn't want me there and didn't clarify much. Wouldn't recommend.

Great course! He does tend to ramble during lectures which can be confusing, but over all his class was interesting.

He's a bit of a rambler, but you'll get used to it. Rogers was very laid back, with limited lectures that you don't have to take notes for. He also seems to have a good knowledge of films in general, but he's still all for history. BUT you should definitely participate and do the readings, as he gives credits to students who put in an effort.

Excellent professor. Thorough knowledge of British history and has written several books (7 I think?) very sweet and charming. Helpful to students as well. Great lectures and engages the class. (If the class sits awkwardly quiet it's because no ones done the homework readings!) slackers!

Good professor, some content in HIST 1050 was a little boring at times but he tries to make lectures as interesting as possible. Charles was my TA and was great as well.

I truly loved this professor. I took him during my first year at York and he was my favourite thus far. He has a lot of knowledge about what he teaches and is very passionate. I enjoyed his class every bit. He continuously tries to keep everything fresh and covers interesting topics. There are quite a bit readings however he makes them interesting.

Very knowledgeable. His area of expertise is 17th-18th century and these lectures are very good. outside of this area the lectures get boring and useless. essays are long but he gives topics of which there is plenty to write about. A LOT of readings (normally 30-60pgs/wk but sometimes more)

Lectures are clear and relevant to the suubject. He is very knowledgable in his area of expertise, but does not engaage student discussion. However, many readings long and boring.

This class was a bit boring. The professor didn'tt know how to encourage class discussion, so most of the time people sat awkwardly waiting for him to answer his own questions. But he's a fair marker and easy on extensions. Watching movies in class was pretty cool too.

Great class. Easy fourth year HIST colloqium. We watched movies every class and listened to him ramble on. Very knowledgable in his subject, he just doesn't seem to like to let students talk. Other than that, good class. Good marker...dry British humour can seem a bit too dry at times...

Excellent prof. Presents material clearly and avoids the pretentious vocabulary a lot of his colleagues love so much. Always willing to help when problems arise. Would take another class with Rogers in a heartbeat (this was my second with him).
