One of my favorite teachers I've ever had! Feedback was super helpful and he was accessible outside of class - he LOVES when people go to his office hours! Class discussions were so interesting. He encouraged us to look at & think about literature in a new way, it was so awesome and I feel like I learned a lot. Made an 8am not the worst! Take him!!

love this guy. For papers, make sure the ideas discussed in class are in there(he's really nice about giving extensions and very understanding). I spoke 3 times in his class & got an 8/10 for participation grade & barely read compared to other people. Show any kind of insight, take notes & you'll be fine. Homework is reading and forum questions.

Wouldn't take him again. Very strict grading, "meh" feedback. Get's annoyed when nobody in the class talks. Some of the stuff he made us read in class was really interesting, though.

I loved this class. 3 short papers (2-3 pages each) about poems read in class. Very manageable. One 5 page critical analysis at end of semester. Readings were extremely interesting and though-provoking. Sometimes he lectures a lot, but if you pay attention it's interesting. Outside of class, he's such a nice man. Nice to just sit and chat w him.

We had to read a lot and buy many expensive books. He has many forum posts due and we have to read about a book a week. It's a good class for an English Major but if you are not much of a reader or cannot put too much time into a class I would not recommend taking him. Though he is a very caring nice man with a lot of great insights on the world.

I had Miller for both my Messina and EN201. Clearly, I enjoyed my first course with him which encouraged me to pursue a second. I know several of my classmates did the same, which is a testimony to how great of a teacher and guy that Dr. Miller is. His courses are generally discussion based which is great if the class is wiling to participate!

I loved this class, although I wasn't so sure about it at first. If you don't read the assigned stuff, you will hate this class. I thought the difficultly was perfectly appropriate since it was a junior level class. If you're trying to BS your way through for an easy A, move on. He clearly cared about that topic, and his empathy was encouraging.

By far the worst professor I've had at Loyola. He's a tough grader for no apparent reason, his assignments make no sense, and his class was incredibly boring; never stopped talking and always kept us late. He provides little feedback on papers & how ur doing overall. If u actually want to learn and get a good grade while doing so, avoid this class.

Very intelligent, fair grader, and reasonably easy class. Gives a very interesting perspective on how to look at literature and make this class apply to your life in some way, even if you think it wont. Overall, a solid pick, although he could get a little boring at points when he lectured.

I hated this class with a passion. Miller will ask your interpretation of the text and then write a paper for it but if it doesn't match his opinion your grade will suffer. He's horribly boring and annoying. Homework is light but papers are worth a lot and he's a really tough grader. Hated this class.

His class is difficult and you will have to work hard if you want a good grade. If you take class seriously and try, you can do well and you will get a lot out of the class. He is very nice and will help you with any questions that you have about course material or life and is interested in the well being of his students.

He is the worst professor possible for any class in our generation. He has made me rather jump in front of a moving train then sit through his wretched heart wrenching soul tearing class. I have never seen a more miserable person who is anti everything good and happy in my life.

Very interesting class. My section was the art of poetry. Not a bad amount of homework : reading / essays. Extremely interesting. Through activity he shows you why you are learning the way you are. Somewhat difficult grader, and he makes you work hard. But it is 100% worth it and i have learned so much from the class.

Will really make you work, but you'll definitely get something out of the class. Assigns a lot of reading & writing, and tends to talk a lot, sometimes over your head, but all in all a great guy to work with.

Dr Miller was my core advisor and teacher. He was fantastic. He went out of his way to help, and he was always trying to get us involved. While his class isn't that easy, he is very smart and urges you to work hard. I recommend his class, especially if you like literature.
