Comment:

While Gayla is clearly passionate about what she does and her students, lectures are boring. She often gets side-tracked by her own interests and doesn't leave a lot of room for true discussion of the novels. Also, choices of reading for the class were bland and let downs compared to the many great choices for Victorian novels.

If you pay attention in class and take notes it isn't too hard. She's a good professor and even though the lectures can be a little dull they are mostly interesting and easy to follow. Quizzes every week and one final paper, a midterm, and a written final. Solid choice for upper level English.

Major Writers in English Lit: Really nice lady, her lectures in class are interesting and not too boring for english. however she's a very tough grader. the midterm was extremely hard and harshly graded. not an easy A if you don't devote a lot of time. lots of textbooks that you barely use. have to do daily assignment questions on the readings

(19th c Lit) one of the best classes i've taken. tons of reading but if you like 19th c lit.... go for it. everything we read was awesome. she's very helpful ... lot of work, if you do the work you will get a good grade. big on class participation and frequent quizzes on readings. seems more intimidating and harder than she actually is

No doubt one of the worst professors I've encountered at Loyola. Very unfair grader, takes off for spelling on tests. (if thats any indicator)Very dull; found it difficult to pay attention let alone stay awake in class; overwhelming amount of reading (sometimes 70+ pages per night); quizes alost everyday. I would recommend someone else

Easy class for the most part. McGlamery really shows interest in what she does and is straightforward with her quizzes. Tough grader on essays, but the quizzes and group presentations do a lot to raise the grade. Definitely recommend her for and Understanding Lit. Teacher. Veryy nice and helpful. Likes when you participate in class.
