My favorite professor at OSU and I was an English major. He made the class so interesting by telling stories that helped you better understand the concepts. If you like history, take any of Dr. Steneck's classes.

He was ok. I kind of liked the lectures, even though it was pretty impossible to take notes. He's more of a story teller. So just sitting there was kind of nice. There was way too much writing for a GEC 100 class. Take this class if you like to listen to stories. If you want to actually learn some stuff, find someone else.

If you have the slightest interest in history, you should take Dr. Steneck. Yeah, his class might not be as easy as others, but you LEARN! Steneck is passionate about his subject and it shows, even if he is not an American historian. I almost wish I were an European history major so I could take more of his classes.I would recommend him to anyone.

The only thing he does well is speak clearly. His lecture notes are terrible. His quizes are way too hard. He teaches the class like its a 500 level class. He seems to have way too much confidence in knowing his material and speaks like he was there at the time. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is absolutely terrible.

Took the class on modern German history. From the other reviewers, it sounds like he may not know much about other history, but this class is his field of specialty. Knew what he was talking about, and the books he assigned were great - lots of memoirs. Take this class only if you're interested in the subject.

This prof is HORRIBLE. He goes too fast in lecture and skips over thousands of years of history just because he doesnt know the material. My girlfriend is taking this class with a different prof and her prof treats it like a real INTRO (100 level) class. This guy acts as if we are all working on our masters in history. AVOID STENECK at all costs!!

Is a very hard course but he is up front about it and says during the first class this it is the hardest intro history course offered so you know what to expect. Exams are ridiculously hard as expected. he speaks quickly during his lectures but only because there is a lot of material to cover. he is a nice guy, it's just a hard course.

I don't agree with others' posting. Yes, his lectures are a bit on the boring side and the study guide was a bit long but this is college right? The info isn't hard it is just a large range of topics/time frames - hence the title "World History." He explains his expectations up front...what more do you want? Overall, take it at your own risk.

hated him, he was ridiculous. gave us so many terms for the midterm and final and only tested us on 5. his lectures went so fast and he told us he expected us to fill in his lectures with the book, impossible. horrible teacher, graded and taught us like we were grad students not undergrads taking a GEC avoid if possible!!!!

The Syllabus clearly states in BOLD lettering..."This is the HARDEST intro to History class you can take at The Ohio State University". Need I say more?! He is like a book on tape, his lectures are better for practicing your doodles than learning History, and he teaches as if we are grad students, not GEC students

so basically he teaches this class as if it were a grad level course. his review guide for the midterm and final was made up of about 200 terms we were told to memorize and then he only tested us on 5 of them... ummm can you say psycho. definately stay away from his class. it was a nightmare

Like everyone else said, even though he knows his history he makes this class was too demanding for 100 level GCE. Study Guides are pages long filled with worthless terms. Even multiple choice quizzes are sometimes confusing. Avoid for history 112, unless you REALLY love history.

Man this guy is a jerk. he knows alot about history but goes way to nuts for a 100 level class. he dosen't put up notes for lecture, you have to sit there and scribble as fast as you can each lecture while he talks without slowing down. If you don't do that then you are stuck reading 200 pages of a thick text book for the tests. NOT RECOMMEDED

He definately knows his stuff, it's just that he writes his tests so they set you up to fail. Be prepared for lots of double negative questions. Also, his key term study guides are worthless. It's basically all cause and effect from lecture/the book. not so much people or things

Nice friendly guy but the class closely resembled that of Graduate level. Had very broad questions to answer on assignments but he was very honest and up front about 20 students dropped the class the first 1.5 weeks.

Good guy, teaches fine, but takes himself way, way, way to seriouslly. This was a freshman level class and he treated it (and graded it) like a graduate class. At least he was honest about it though.
