Comment:

Prof. Vaget is an interesting person to talk to, and the class never gets boring. However, she is not very organised and her syllabus changes everyday so we never really knew what we were going to do and we didn't do a lot of stuff we had initially planned. She also makes us write the same assignments again and again.

Very interesting to talk to, but not good at teaching the material. Class revolves around each student presenting one castle or painting or whatever, and it's very hard to tell what she actually wants you to say. Often interrupts presentations to say things she thinks you ought to talk about and very slow at evaluating and returning work.

i cannot believe this woman is still employed by mhc. she should have gone years ago. she is hilarious in class, true, but anybody actually looking to learn something should stick to gadjigo, legouis, gelfand and rivers. disorganized, unhelpful, plays favorites, and generally daffy.

I would take another class with madame in a heartbeat. That said, there is no use in watching the syllabus because it changes daily, and be ready to sit through many classes listening to her lecture instead of doing what was planned. Assignments change constantly. You will never know if you've done what she wants. The only professor who has made me cry, out of sheer frustration and embarrassment. Allows you to turn in papers as many times as you want until it's an A. However, it takes her the entire semester to get the first corrected paper back to you. Never again.

Inconsistent, practices outrageous favoritism, changes syllabus and expectations, no sense of learning outcomes, terrible pedagogy. Manipulative. Should only teach the French pronunciation course. I'm shocked by how many people find her "awesome." Stick with Chris Rivers and Gelfand.

She is amazing. Her methods are cutting edge. She is a very demanding instructor but a generous grader. In her class you learn to do public presentations in French, you learn to decode images (art and films) and you learn to create a web site for your term paper. My time and money were well invested.

Here's the thing: this professor is partial to certain students, but really, she's partial to the students who are polite to her, take the class seriously, and participate. I honestly did not understand what she expected from us, ever. Her syllabus changes on a daily basis and her grading system is virtually non-existent. Also, I studied for hours for the final, and it didn't even count. Basically, show that you care for the class, but don't go to great lengths to do amazingly.

I wish I had taken 215 instead. Vaget's course taught me absolutely nothing. She conducts class in English, assigns no essays, and (worst of all) chooses favorites and lets them "run" the class, which very quickly makes class time a total waste. Funny, but not much else.
