Lectures are long. Lots of diagrams. Lots of connect assignments. He is very serious, and sometimes that make his classes boring. His exams cover exactly what is explained in class, so if you study and memorize the diagrams you'll do fine.

Tough class. He explains things in a way very relevant to the real world - which is nice. However, if you do not read the textbook, don't expect to pass

I don't learn well by listening and struggled a lot with this course as Nigel mostly lecturers without slides or notes. He does so quickly so you can't write down what he is saying and does not allow time for questions in class. HOWEVER he was exceptionally helpful outside of class, taught private study groups and was always available for questions

Comment:
If possible try to avoid this teacher. He relies exclusively on multiple choice for exams. This is totally unfair in a course where there is heavy reliance on graphs and formulas. Choosing between 4 possible answers that only vary slightly in wording 100 times does not test students̢۪ knowledge! At best it only serves to confuse them.

Very nice instructor, but you have to read the textbook to pass, think the textbook as your friend.... He is always willing to help, if you need help, so don't hesitate to ask help. I would prefer only this instructor and I have took Econ 111 with him...

A lot of people complain that the diagrams he draws in class are useless... which is wrong. The diagrams help you understand the concepts, and if you really want to do well in his class you'll need to do all the readings and homework!

Lessons learned: If you want an A in this class, understand the concepts, go to his office hours when you're confused and do the questions in the textbook. I got a 50% on his first quiz because I didn't think it would be hard. Leading up to the midterm I studied my ass off for two weeks and I got an A on the midterm. Hard work does a lot! Try it.

He uses moodle way too much. he is very monotone in his lectures, and doesn't really explain things ... he just draws arrows and diagrams on the board and expects you to somehow follow. his class was really hard to take notes for, and there's no textbook either ...

I was dreading ECON, after this class I wanted to keep the books! Class can be a bit tricky to follow but a lot is repeated. READ THE BOOKS & moodle (scary amount of data) as that helps with depth of understanding & final exam prep. If you love Monty Python, you'll love Nigel's class.

I must start by saying he is a very nice guy! However, the class can be boring at times and sometimes hard to follow. If you are interested in econ you will do well as the class is well focused, if not (like myself), make sure you try hard and do the homework. Personally, I would not take another one of his classes.

Nigel is a friendly chap, his accent soothes the soul. That being said, keep up with your work and you'll do fine. Also, he frequently references butter and his favourite football club FC BATE. I highly recommend taking his courses!

If you like charts, diagrams, and mathematical explanations, take this class. If you do not, don't. Nigel is a nice guy but he only has one technique for teaching. He talks the entire class and does not once engage the students by asking their input or checking to see if everyone is following, which they are not. Read moodle to prepare for exam.

BE AWARE: After reading through the reviews of this guy with a critical eye, it's not too hard to see that he's giving himself great ratings here on a regular basis to boost his bottom lines. Key Points I've picked up: AWFUL notes, however, very willing to help you and as long as you can put up with reading the text yourself, you'll do FINE.

he is a very good instructor and very helpful when you don't understand, but you have to read the textbook (Nigel tells the whole class that you have to read the textbook on the first day of class and on the table of content!) Study hard you will get an A for sure :)

Absolutely horrible professor who talks about his own view of the economic world and what it should be according to him. No textbook use and all of the notes in class don't relate to textbook. All around awful and is the worst teacher I have ever had at Capilano.
