Professor Silber is a great professor! Overall, her class was very engaging and nuanced. As a person, she is funny and caring, and as a teacher, she's a great lecturer and makes her expectations clear.

Pro. Silber is the best professor I've had at BU. She's a great lecturer - always puts a lot of work into them and rarely feels like she's just talking *at* the class - and she encourages class participation without putting anyone on the spot. She assigns a lot of reading, but I've had two classes with her, and the readings are never dry.

A great lecturer, although the course I took was team-taught and it came off a little sloppy. She can be helpful, and is a very fair grader (she's also my adviser). I would recommend her courses to anyone.

Comment:

Great lecturer but expects TOO much from her students. You have to really like women's history, if not it'll become torturous. Grades papers fairly but the midterm/final are inhumane!! Lots of reading and writing, but that's usual for a history course.

Comment:

Professor Silber is a fabulous teacher. She puts a huge amount of time into her lectures and they are always very interesting and easy to follow. You have to study very hard for her tests for an A, but she gives outlines which is more than most teachers and is always available to help. I would recommend any class she teaches (I've taken 2)

She tells it like it is but she puts in more effort than your average professor. If you show interest in the subject and do the readings, you'll do well. Really, it's nice to have a professor who actually seems to enjoy teaching. I would recommend any class with her.

While not as passionate as other History professors, Professor Silber nonetheless is a more than adequate lecturer on the Civil War. Her lectures are always clear, as are the possible terms and essay questions she provides before the midterm and the final. The grading on the final paper is highly questionable, however. Take her Civil War class.

i took this class because the ratings said she was good. DONT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU'RE NOT A FEMINIST. it's interesting, but if you have limited knowledge of american history (im an intl student) you're pretty much screwed. format wasnt hard; 1 midterm 1 paper 1 final. very hard to get a C, but it's not an easy A

For a large lecture class, Prof. Silber does a great job of getting class participation. She doesn't stop people from dominating the discussion, though, which can be frustrating. Lectures are clear, but dry, except when she uses visuals and elicits discussion. Tests are straight from lectures and the readings. One paper, graded hard but fair.

If you attend lecture, study, and turn in the term paper you should do fine in this class. Although she reads during lectures, they are mostly interesting, even to non-history majors. If you are required to take a history class, definitely take this class.

good prof., doesnt spend much tim on the war but more on leading up to the war, very interesting, gives you test questions ahead of time (ie prepare 4 essays, 1 on test) research paper is very straight forward and not too long (8 pages), quick in returning grades, funny and will autograph the book she wrote

she talks fast and gives a lot of information, but she gives you the id's and essays before the test which is really helpful. she's nice and if you have a problem with a grade she will help. i recommend this history of women class very interesting
