All in all, he was an extremely affable and nice guy. However, we were only graded by three papers and a final. Final was easier than the papers. The TAs graded pretty tough for an intro course. However, if you go to their (and his for that matter) office hours, you can get increasingly better grades on the papers.

Loved Professor Guynn! Really upbeat and makes the hour and a half lecture bearable. Super funny and gives simple analogies for any hard to understand concepts. My only struggle in this class was keeping up with the assigned readings and dealing with his TAs. Harsh graders when it comes to essays and not the nicest of people Ive met.

Prof is really passionate about the subject he is teaching. However, his lectures would get REALLY lengthy at times so class seemed really long. No midterm, just 3 essays and a cumulative final (have't taken it yet). The essays are graded by the TA's, it is highly recommended that you go to them with detailed outlines, SO DO SO. put in effort.

Really into talking about gender but without basic specifics (like a trans 101 sheet). Literature works were good in the start and then took a nosedive in quality & discourse. Nice guy & easy grader, reads parts out loud in class. When people don't volunteer, awkward silences. Found the class useless to me personally.

Lectures would get lengthy at times. Going to class actually is very important even though it is not mandatory because it prepare you for his exam. In my opinion, he expects a lot from you when it comes to writing papers. I struggled with B+'s on two of his papers because he expects a lot. Only recieved an A- on the last paper.

After one class with him, I'm convinced that Prof. Guynn is the best professor in the French department. Now that he is the department chair, he doesn't teach many undergrad classes, so absolutely take his class if you get the chance. He is witty, funny and nicer than you may at first realize. He assigns interesting reading and cares about student

Professor Guynn picks engaging readings, encourages active discussion, and gives detailed, analytical, and thought-provoking feedback on our papers. He also responds promptly to emails and grades everything within a couple of days. He seems to be a very easy grader, but this does not tempt us to skim by, because the content is so fascinating.

I have taken Prof Guynn twice already and he is hands down the best professor in the French Department. He is hilarious, makes tough reading easy to comprehend and truly motivates students to participate in class. He grades fairly, you can't just BS your essay and expect an A. If you are a French major or minor, take one of his classes!

He also responds promptly to emails and grades everything within a couple of days. He is an easy grader, but who's looking at grades when the course is so fascinating?

Professor Guynn made this class come to life. I literally went to every lecture just to listen to him. He was hilarious & always willing to help. Before every paper, he would give us an example of what he was looking for. There were 3 papers and the final was fill-in-the-blank. Keeping up with the reading and highlighting quotes beforehand helps.

You really need to be on top of the reading for this class. Professor Guynn is nice, but it's a difficult class. 3 papers + a final paper that you write in 2 hours and participation is worth 20%. Even though I did most of the reading, I had a hard time keeping up in class with analysis.

The other reviews are accurate. Prof was outstanding, but the grading system was messed up. We weren't assigned a specific TA to grade our papers (in an attempt to make it "fair"?) so I never knew what my grader was looking for because the TA's had different expectations. Would've been enjoyable if not for the inconsistent grading.

The professor is a really nice and funny guy. However, the class was not as easy as I thought it would be. The essays were graded harshly for an intro humanities class. Thought it would be an easy A, but I was wrong.

I really liked this teacher! It was not an easy class though. The papers were graded WAY too harshly for a non-English intro to humanities class. And with the bulk of the points being from the essays, it was very hard to get an A in the class even though the final was a breeze. If you take this class, be prepared to work very hard for a B.

Prof. Guynn is a very talented lecturer, which shows in his class attendance. The three papers were graded without mercy... That being said, his final was extremely easy. This class isn't an "easy A," but it's a pleasant experience.

I absolutely love Prof. Guynn and his lectures even though I didn't really like the material. His reading is pretty minimal, and I only read about half of them. Essays are straight forward, he tells you exactly what he's expecting. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take this. This is a "work a bit, but not too much" A.
