This Prof. is ABSOLUTELY the worst. DO NOT TAKE HIM! WARNING! YOU WILL FAIL! Unhelpful and very unclear on the subject matter. I asked for help and was told to drop out if I don't understand! Very rude professor! Almost got the class killed with an experiment. He has NO idea what he is doing. I did not feel safe! DO NOT TAKE!

Professor Allen knows his material well, but doesn't spend enough time on the formulas that are involved in chemistry. I think a few more examples of each of them would have helped. He also tells way too many stories. He is a nice guy, but manages time poorly. I have always been an "A" and "B" student, but finished this class with a pathetic "C".

As the previous posts have said, he is a nice person, but his teaching skills are a bit lacking. He likes to eat up test time by traveling down "memory lane". Very forgetful, although he does make himself available for help. NOT RECCOMENDED.

he is a really nice guy if you attend classes and try hard, but at the same time his tests are hard and way too frequent, and you would have had to have taken chem in high school to get an A in this class. he doesnt let you retake a test even if you have a medical excuse as to why you missed it. nice guy, TERRIBLE class

Not very helpful, doesn't answer questions well, and makes lab a little frustrating. He often thought I was tardy when I wasn't which was an unwelcome hassle every class... I don't recommend him to anyone

Good class. multiple choice tests. good study guide. lots of extra credits. don't just do the asigned homework, do all the practice questions in the text(it doesn't take long). If you're study hard, you'll do very well in this class.

He's a good profesor. You just need to study for the tests by doing your homework, studying the chapter self-test(both in-book and hand-out). before taking the tests, remember to do some practice on the student course guide from the library(most of the test questions are similar to these questions). if you do all of this you will easy to get an A.

Good prof. expects you to read the book which i guess is too hard for some people. everyone should stop whining. There really isn't another way to learn it than by working through the problems

the stories kill me!! he goes off on tangents for the whole class period. If you are unable to learn from a book, then i wouldn't recommend this class. Because of the stories & answering inane questions from students. Tests are multiple choice which is nice, tests are also for one chapter at a time. double nice.

Very difficult tests. He creates word problems to work out on the test but not in the format of any problems you worked in homework. Doesn't lecture, basically you are teaching yourself chemistry. Have witnessed him hollering at students on many occasions. Don't take this class.

Difficult professor. Grades fairly. Highly knowledgeable. Exams worth more than 100 pts, so possible to get extra credit on exams. Attendance mandatory. Will grade you based on improvement, not test average. Can get an A if you study and make the effort. Final exam worth 50% of grade. Allows cheat sheet on final, but makes you memorize a lot.

If you want to learn Introductory Chemistry with an instructor that grades tough, purposely makes his tests harder than other instructors, and harder than the test that come with the book, then take Norman Allens Class.

Interesting guy but not clear during lecture, unable to decipher examples put up on board, never know what's going to be on the test. Has a good beacon tutor (if you can attend his sessions). Wouldn't recommend.

Old White " going deaf " Chemist who doesnt care if you pass or not....Tests are very hard cause the questions are not discussed during lecture. He starts the year saying he will fail at least 5 students - and seems to like that trend.

This teacher is tough. You really need to study and the tests are pretty hard too. You have to do your homework before he lectures on it. I personally would not take him again. However, if you work hard, you will do fine.

I don't think that this professor is interested in teaching any longer. He can get really interesting during experiments but that is where it stops. He is very hard and makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. Tests are ridiculous. I haven't talked to one person on campus that enjoyed this teacher.

He does not give any handout or powerpoints.Never know what is on test, and you always wonder ...I pesonally would take with Corwin, the guy who wrote the book.Prof Allen never rarely opens the textbook, and sometimes talks a lot about his fancy childhood, especially his dad's grocery store and all that nonsense.

Mr. Allen is pretty cool. He gets side tracked sometimes, and the homework is ahead of the lectures, but if you read and show up, you'll be fine.
