Had him for two classes. Best teacher I've had at unc. I think this fall is his last semester teaching, so try to get him if you can.

Most boring class I have ever taken. The material might not be that difficult, but the sheer monotony of the class makes it so hard to pay attention that it becomes hard to derive notes from the rambling lectures he gives.

Prof. Johnson is very nice and helpful. It's my most boring class, but easiest b/c material is up front. There are 4 quizzes (about 75 questions each.) If you don't do the readings each day, it will take between 7-12 hours to read through the articles, your notes, and answer the course pack study questions before the quiz. This will guarantee an A

Incredibly dull. He appears to care about his subject but his speech is so halting, flat, and quiet that I find it difficult to engage and consequently unable to share in his enthusiasm. Most boring class I've ever taken - by far. Strong recommendation to avoid.

Very interested in his subject. Before each section in his course pack is a list of terms and concepts you'll need to know for the test, nothing else is required. Papers are also typed straight from the course pack, no outside sources needed. Anyone who comes to lecture and crams the night before tests will most likely get an A.

This guy seemes out of his mind. Impossible to understand and gives "quizzes" that are way too long. Not that difficult but enough to give you a headache.

Kind of meditative. Read everything and you'll pass easy while also learning some neat things about gardens and Japan. It takes care of a perspective, too. He rambles a bit and isn't too clear on what he wants with papers, but that won't be a problem if you just read and attend most lectures.

You probably can recieve at least an A- or B+ just by reading the course pack and not attending class. There are a couple of papers that he assigns which are a breeze. Reading the course pack and books is mandatory if you want to do well. He is very interested in the subject but his voice and the lecture make dozing off really easy.

Norris is obviously interested in the subject, but can never really convey what he is trying to tell us. Do whatever review the TAs give you and it should be manageable.

Overall, it's a really easy class. If you go to the review sessions and read the coursepack, you'll get an A or high B. He's all over the place during lecture, but every once in a while you'll get a 'nugget' where he really explains a subject really well.

This guy is all over the place in lecture, he talks about random stuff, but overall he is a pretty good guy. His tests are pretty easy and if you study an average amount you can easily make an A or B. The coursepack for the class is really expensive though so make sure you are going to stick with the class before you open it.
