After a bad experience with a writing workshop a while ago, I decided to give a higher-level one a try, and I'm glad I did. We only had the opportunity to bring in two pieces of writing, but we did a lot of critiquing; I learned more than I thought I would. He had a teaching style I really liked, but I wished for clearer grading criteria

Great professor. Really explores practical, concrete ways to improve your writing. Criticizes your work fairly, and also recognizes what you do right. Very interesting. Class involves discussing assigned stories, discussing students' stories, and informal lecture. He can be a little scary, but hang in there because it's worth it.
