I liked Gately. She is a great teacher and is very good at communicating with students and is excited about the material. The grading was a little unclear though and it was hard to know what to do to get an A. I had a great time in class though. She's a great person. I recommend her.

Took Contemp. Brit. & Irish Lit with Gately. Woman is an absolute sweetheart- she's very understanding. I once completely forgot to turn a paper in, realized it weeks after it was due, and she let me turn it in, no points taken off. Her class is one of those where not much work is required, but you still feel like you learn a lot.Great book choices

Gately is a sweet woman but her class is obscenely boring to me. Victorian Lit is already a dry subject, but the readings she picks are even deemed boring by Gately herself. Definitely an easy class, though, but it's hard to find the motivation to attend.

Irish American Literature: The first book wasn't bad, but it seemed like every book after it had to do with the same exact thing. Discussions were really boring and not necessary. I hardly ever went to class and got high B's on all the tests. Mandatory peer teaching one day a week. Boring class, but easy.

I loved this class. It was definitely worth waking up for the 8:30. She chooses interesting books, and not only do you read them for general and cultural comprehension, she always finds something else that is interesting in the works. Lectures are always interesting, although not necessarily mandatory. Tests were pretty easy, if you like essays.

I love Gately. She was really helpful to me both while I was in her class and now that I'm not. I'm taking her again next semester. I got a C on the midterm and still got a 99 in the class. I would definately recommend her.

Dr. Gately is a very good professor, and I thoroughly enjoyed her class. For those of you who prefer serious class interaction during the lecture, you might be disappointed. She talks most of the time, but she asks a lot of questions if you answer them. Her tests are fair, and you'll be fine if you read the material. Highly recommended.

She is very nice, but I feel like I taught myself most of what I got out of the class by reading the book.

Dr. Gately is the best professor I've had since coming to Truman. Her lectures and analyses were insightful and relevant, and the tests were more than reasonable. Unreservedly recommended.

Good teacher. HORRIBLE LECTURER! Not very confident. Mumbles over her words, rambles. Becomes very boring. Also, she likes to administer surprise quizzes that are a part of the FINAL. However, they only apply to those that were present on the day of the quiz and not to those that weren't there. Liked her until this final quiz came about.

Prof. Gately is a great teacher! The class is mostly discussion-based: we usually sit in a circle and discuss the reading. I thought she did a great job of letting us discuss certain aspects of the reading and then inserting her insights wherever necessary/helpful, and I definitely want to take more classes with her!

Why does Patricia Gately NOT have a chili pepper next to her name!!!?? She is such a babe (and recently single too)! Sure, she's physically beautiful at first, but once you listen to her talk about literature in her quiet, sexy voice you can't help but fall in love! She's a good prof too...very nice!

She's quiet and sometimes class discussions are almost painful, but that depends more on the students in the class than her. When the class wanted to have great discussions, we did. I enjoyed this class.

I don't know why everyone is giving Dr. Gately such poor scores. Her JINS class was one of my favorite at Truman.

She was the worst english teacher I've had at Truman. She never went in depth over any of the readings. Moreover, she wanted everyone in class to rewrite their papers. Her example of a good paper started off "I went to the library, and I didn't know what to write. Then, I found this article...." Need I say more? I seriously wonder how this woman recieved a PHD.
