Comment:

Interesting class. Taught me a lot about the different sects in American religious history. Very understanding professor. Lectures really capture your attention. The class got off pace but she was flexible with certain assignments as a result. Only complaint is that she frequently dismissed class early when we could've used the time to catch up.

Comment:

Derr is a sweet lady and accessible outside class but her lectures are HEAVY. They can be pretty boring to sit through. It is your run of the mill history course but theres only 2 exams, a final, and a group paper. The final she lets you use an entire full paper cheat sheet which makes that exam an easy A, but the others are hard.

She is a very nice lady, but her lectures are the same every single day. The lectures are pretty dry and boring. There's about 3 tests and one small project, so if you do bad on one test it impacts your overall grade a lot. Lastly, she's pretty vague on what she wants you to know for the test which makes it difficult to study for.

Shes very nice but passionate about what she does. She will get mad when she sees the class slacking off. You can pass the course without reading much but if you really want to do well you should read the text.

Dr. Derr is a wonderful professor! I would highly recommend taking one of her History courses. She genuinely cares about her students, which is rare in my opinion. Also, she gives clear grading criteria on papers. Go to her office hours if you need help with citations or need clarification. Other than that, her lectures are great!

Dr. Derr is hands down the sweetest lady I've ever had as a professor. You can tell how much she cares about her students. It is a lecture based class and you reay have to study, but she makes the lectures so easy to follow and she is so knowledgeable. Truly amazing professor, I'd take her again in a heartbeat and I never liked history!!!

Although I am not a HIS. major, I have taken Dr. Derr a few times. Fantastic teacher, so knowledgable, and keeps class light and fun. I took one of her classes in the beginning of my academic career and she was really a game changer for me. If you get the opportunity to have her in class - take it! You will not regret it.

I would argue that Dr. Derr has held a more positive influence on my life than just about any other professor. Her incredible expertise, her incredible personality, and her genuine compassion for her students makes her one of the greatest professors Kutztown could ever have. Absolutely would recommend her to anyone. Truly amazing.

Dr. Derr is wonderful. She is engaging, funny, sweet, and really tries to make sure everyone is following what she's talking about. I loved her lectures! She's easy to follow and her exams are relatively easy as long as you study and understand the content behind the essay questions. LOVE her!

Dr. Derr is awesome. Never have I been bored by one of her lectures. She's super clear in everything she requires for the class, and she makes even boring topics sound interesting. I would absolutely take her again and I recommend her to any and all who plan to take any of her US history classes at KU.

She is such a nice lady. She does do participation points only if you show up to class. You do take a lot of notes but she has guided power points on D2L to help you give a guideline about what she is going over. Don't take this class in the morning or else you don't want to get out of bed for a lecture. She doesn't do extra credit but shes helpful

I would take Dr. Derr again no questions asked, she is the sweetest woman! I found her lectures interesting, and though she does move kind of fast she is always willing to go back to reexplain & answer questions. We had 1 quiz & 3 exams (including the final) and 1 group project. As long as you attend and take good notes you will do fine! Take her!!

Fantastic Teacher. Very passionate. To me, it felt like she cared about your individual effort. You need to attend or you will do poorly. Covers a lot of ground very quickly. Few assignments as well, so if you do bad on one it will hurt. Take notes. Book is VERY necessary. This was my hardest class, but also my favorite. Dr Derr makes it great.

Prof Derr is the cutest and greatest woman in Kutztown. She cares about everyone so much and even in large lectures she knows everyones names. The class is so easy even though it's a ton of note taking so you cant drift off. Today alone she gave 5 extra points to everyone on their exams for her cell phone going off. If you can take her DO IT

Dr. Derr is one of the nicest professors I have ever met. Truly wants to help all students and see you succeed. Incredibly passionate about what she is teaching. Makes you work for the grade however. If you want an easy A, forget it. Tests are hard if you do not study, and I would recommend renting the book. Not necessary to buy.
