He's a great professor! Bright, funny, friendly guy, and very smart. The class is heavy on discussion, and the discussion is always great.

If I could, I would take his class every semester. He is an amazing professor. He's engaging and I left his class with more energy than I entered it. If you are inclined to not take his class because of the workload, I suggest you rethink your choice. You will be asked to read a lot (and it may sound intimidating), but the class is worth it. :)

The tests for this class were unnecessarily long to the point that it was a struggle to finish in time. Also a hard grader, and if you miss class he WILL knock down your grade. Class was also awkward with many periods of silence- never had a more unbearable hour twenty minute class.

Great professor. Engaging lecture professor, but make sure participate in class. Tough exam grader, but if you're a concise writer you'll do fine. He makes his subjects interesting and really tries to connect it to modern day.

i had him for self and the other. anyone who says this guy picks favorites is retarded and just upset over their own grade. he was very fair, and pretty mind opening. he gave extensions when people asked for them. i would def go to class, u get a lot out of it and it helps u when writing papers. writing intensive.

awful prof! makes fun of students who he doesnt agree with. isn't open to new ideas, or ones that he just doesn't get, even if they've been published by highly respected scholars. his office hours are worthless, just a waste of time. class is absolutely awful, with some students favored over others. Grading is not consistent and reflects his bias

Favors males' opinions over females'. Grades are influenced by how much he likes you. I dread going to the class because I know that my input doesn't matter to him. Difficult to understand because of accent.

Amazing professor. Really opens your mind and if you are willing he can will help you learn a lot about writing and textual analysis. A cool guy with varied interests. He doesnt lecture so much as attempt to create discussion and let the students teach themselvs. Call & Response was one of the best courses I have ever taken.

Overall a great professor. Sometimes a little unclear about writing assignments. Also, an impossible grader. Consider that your best work could only get a B+. Great prof though. Teaches writing skills very well.

In all honesty he is a very nice man who tries his hardest and likes to hear from his students, but he can be very unclear in what he wants. Also, he has a screwy way of grading (easy to do mediocre but difficult to do very well) that is quite frusterating. Also he stutters slightly and that can ge

Brilliant professor -- he really cares about developing the minds of his students. However, he can be very vague, and he assigns homework like his is the only class you have. You should be okay if you keep up with the readings and show up for class.

Bernard is very cool. He gives a lot of homework, but it's not that bad. His exams are difficult, but bottom line if you do the readings you will be set for the entire semester. P.S. go to the writing center, he loves when you get extra help.

Needs to respond to questions instead picking one word from it and going off in another direction. Explanations need to be much much clearer and discussions more focused. Too much work by far, papers, midterms, finals, huge amts of reading. Bit much
